Those days are long gone.
SOO is reality TV these days.
They'll do this. They'll also during the game mention how (insert team) are at sixes and sevens or out on their feet, only for the same team to suddenly spring to life 5 minutes later after several rather convenient penalties blown their way. This will be punctuated by frequent observations (in bewildered tones) how Origin manages to do this time and time again, as if by magic. "How many times do we see this?" etc etc. They'll cut to shots of the crowd and talk about how good Townsville is and how "we should come here more often".

Maybe I'm cynical? I just want Origin that plays out like real footy and not this contrived TV product it has become.
youre all whinging bastards, just enjoy the game for what it is

Looking forward to this SOO series far more than any in the last 3 years. Felt the overall quality of the teams in recent times (admittedly Covid year was a blip) has been lacking a lot - irrespective of who won.

But looking at these two teams now, I get the feeling this could be the start of a great era... for both NSW/Qld. Big names emerging and establishing themselves in key positions..

Origin could get back to it's heights where it was for so long.

NSW should have won last year, the difference between the 2 teams on paper was huge (and it still is). The difference in the quality of coaching was probably what got QLD over the line.

If NSW can't get it done this year, I don't care if they play it on top of Ayers Rock, they have a better team right across the board.. firstly Fittler deserves to go, secondly.. it raises some serious questions surrounding the Penrith halves combination. Winning NRL games is one thing, winning premierships and origins is another.

In some ways, a lot of Qlders remind me of Souths fans- think that they have the moral high ground because of the footy team they support and have a massive 'Book Of Feuds' they hang onto, stirring up ghosts from decades ago to keep the hate alive for their rivals while conveniently ignoring all the times they've done exactly what they accuse the other mob of doing....because it's them and they're different/ special.
Don't know what you're on about, we are special.

The Qld team last year wasn't as bad as some people made out it was. Definitely a better squad than the 1995 team (who won 3-0) and the 2000 team (who lost 0-3) so make of that what you will. It came down to two things largely:

a) Bennett vs. Freddy. You could see how Wayne got Qld hitting the line at speed in attack and defence to put the pressure on and the change it made to their territory in defence vs. what they did in attack.

b) Teddy's HIA in Game 3.

I'm not sold on the Cleary knockers either. He's still early in his career (let alone his rep career), and has already looked more threatening for NSW than Pearce did his entire Origin career.

My biggest concerns are with the referee blowing a bunch of home-team penalties/ convenient leg-ups and also these new sin-bin rules. This is what runs a real risk of spoiling the contest.

The 1996 maroons would be one of the worst representative teams ever. Players hated vautin and refused to listen, NSW should’ve won those games by far more then what they did.

Jonathan Docking looked more threatening in his origin career than Mitchell Pearce

Looks like around 17 degrees and under 50% humidity tonight. Channel 9 pre-game will still hit their quota of mentioning the heat though.
Add it to the 'origin arena' quota. Hell, chuck in 'fatigue factor', 'big game experience'.
What other dribble will 9 repeat?
