Not surprising. The media are jerking off about Cleary, he basically has a free pass to get away with things that other players would be slammed for.

frustrations with events this morning concerning Cleary and shoulder charge. They have every reason to ask some serious questions of NRL and MRC. Lack of consistency an issue yet again

Explanation from MRC boss Michael Robertson for Cleary decision: “There are four elements to a shoulder charge. The first is force. The second is whether any forceful contact is generated by the shoulder. The third is whether the tackle is made without trying to wrap the arms....

Robertson (cont): And the final element is whether the tackle is careless - did a player play with the proper level of care. The only element which is clear in this particular instance is the use of the arms. In this instance, Nathan Cleary was bracing for contact.....

Robertson (cont): “The Match Review Committee analyses incidents every week which may be shoulder charge actions, but in most cases are not deemed forceful and therefore do not carry an unacceptable risk of injury."

He actually is bumped backwards as a result of the collision.
“For it to be a charge, the Match Review Committee would need to agree that Cleary did not use the proper level of care which the game requires. Did it bring an unacceptable risk of injury? We deemed it did not.....

From the Sydney Morning Herald,

Heat put on match review committee

The NRL is aware of murmurs circulating in club land that the code was on the verge of blowing up the match review committee next year. The rumours have also cast doubt over head of football Graham Annesley’s position in the game, linking him to a role with the 2032 Brisbane Olympic team.

We are told it is just an agenda being pushed by certain clubs that want change, but don’t be surprised if the game’s bosses tinker with the match review committee in the off-season.

Loan System taking shape

The loan system appears here to stay. The ARL Commission will soon be presented with a proposal to introduce short- and long-term loan deals between clubs from next year.

Representatives of the game’s contracting committee are putting the finishing touches on the proposal, which could revolutionise the player transfer market.

The concept, which has the preliminary backing of the RLPA, would allow players to leave their teams for opportunities at rival clubs — as has happened during Operation Relocation in the past couple of weeks and with the New Zealand Warriors in 2020.

Teams wouldn’t be able to make in-season trades unless they are depleted in certain positions due to injury and/or suspension.

From Fox Sports, A bit about Cody in there,

Fight for ‘next million-dollar man’ - Transfer Whispers: https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...e/news-story/37353f5b4f465b66a271211dbe801801

Now, I've said guys like Gags were a must keep but Cody is an absolute MUST KEEP, MUST RETAIN. He is everything to us. We can't offer him a one year deal, it must be multi-year, multi-million dollars. He is worth every cent. I'm sure (well I'm hoping) that the club has planned for this and that's a big reason why we didn't offer Reyno more than one year.

Maybe we didn't resign the others because the Front Office knew the way Cody has been playing, that HE was the one to keep, AND that they were going to have to cough up more than $650K to keep him on?

I hope this is the case because we can't afford to let Cody go - we are what we have been because of HIS play this season.

We've stupidly let Reyno go, if we do the same with Cody I definitely won't be renewing my membership. I'll bet I won't be the only one either.
I never take my membership lightly, but if this happens, it will make me seriously consider what is going on. No threats, and not an easy decision to be taken lightly, but everything will need to be reconsidered......

Mate, I don't take it lightly either. However if you are unhappy with moves the club are making, the only way to make them sit up and take notice is to impact the bottom line. You could ring and register your disappointment but that isn't going to do anything. However if you're a long time member like me and you tell them you're no longer renewing and tell them why, that may affect future decisions they make.
