Yes 1979 i recall - Capital Theatre

If the Pistols had a different manager other than Malcolm McLaren and he didn't sack Glen Matlock especially replacing him with Sid Vicious who may have looked the part but couldn't play the bass then there may well have been more Albums.

Bernie Rhodes early manager of The Clash had a idea which he released as a press release for The Clash to rob a bank with the idea if they got away with it think of all the money they would have and if they got caught think of all the publicity. The Clash then released their own press release that Bernie Rhodes is no longer the manager of The Clash

Rhodes later returned to manage The Clash when Joe said he would quit if Rhodes doesn't come back as the manager
The Clash even wrote a song about it as well at least the deed that is- Bank Robber

My Daddy was a bank robber
But he never hurt nobody
He just loved to live that way
And he loved to steal your money

I think Joe was hoping Topper would get his act together but he didn't for more than 20 odd years.

I was watching a doco the other day Viva Joe Strummer- The Clash and Beyond where Topper was talking about the last time he saw Joe back stage when he was playing with the Mescaleros - He had a can of beer in his hand which was the first thing Joe saw - your still drinking I see.

Topper was pretty emotional about it as he was thinking Joe's last thoughts of him may have been that he had still not kicked his addictions and if he would have when still in The Clash they could have continued on - for how long who knows as they had become pretty big in the US with Combat Rock at number 5 in the album charts.

It was already a fractured period though when Joe Fired Topper as Mick and Paul didn't speak as a result of several back stage altercations.

When Mick turned up late too many times and sometimes not at all Joe gave him the ultimatum to come back as i think he was on his honeymoon at the time - he eventually showed up but Joe had made up his mind and told Mick your fired - Mick asked Paul if you agree with this -Paul said yes i do so that was that
Yeah incredible band in terms of musical development and social messaging before the corporates adopted virtue signalling nonsense.

There’s a rock the casbah cover with the mescaleros on the web dedicated to Topper.

You can hear that honky tonk piano bouncing about with base.

I think Joe was a truly extraordinary person and musician. A great gift to the world.

I tried to get my 2 older cousins to take me to that show but they couldn't make it down from Tamworth. They did make it up to me the next year when they took me to George Thorogood at The Horden Pavilion. To this day still one of the best concerts I've ever been to.
Love George Thorogood, seen him a couple of times (Selinas comes to mind) including the last time he came out here @ Revesby Workers. But I was a bit sad when their original sax player Hurricane Hank Carter left the band, that guy was a hell of player.

I was lucky at that Hordern concert. We had front row seats so when George came out and everyone got up and rushed to the stage I was dead centre right up against it.I was able to rest my arms on the stage as it wasn't that high. My arms were about a foot and a half from Georges feet. He even came and crouched right in front of me. I could have strummed his guitar it was so close to me. No other concert after that could live up to how great a night I had.

Great!
Yeah same with the Revesby Workers gig, and my missus reached out and touched him when he crouched at the from of the stage. LOL
