The Knight good money long term contract was a mistake and Bennett wanted that!
Yeah, I know, and agree but two things to remember:
1. Knight was offered 500K per year with a rival club and knocked that back to take less and stay with South's.
2. At that time, nobody could have foreseen COVID, and a reduction of 500K in the cap for the next two years.

Maybe the front office can try and move him, but we'd probably still have to foot some of the bill. More likely, we won't be signing Sua, but I'm ok with that.

Opportunities will present themselves. Eventually Penrith is going to hit the crunch too. The question will be will Demetriou be attractive to prospective free agents?

We are offering Cody one year as well or at best a second year but with a club option.

Solly is confident Cody will stay on a deal like that!
Yeah could be, it's hard to tell, but I would not be surprised if that happens.

They need to consider the impact that will have on our footy (e.g. Anasta thinks Cody is the one to keep and runs the shop), and keeping Latrell long term.

I truly hope they can live up to the hype about them. I just feel that we should have paid heed to the old saying "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush"
Totally agree, I just wish the front office had given Adam a 2 year deal. Long enough for Adam to stay, long enough to ensure a transition to the young'uns, and long enough for the cap to be restored to its originally set limit post COVID

Reyno is going nowhere...
Mate you’re gonna have to accept he’s gone!

We have offered 12 months and 700k. Sharks have offered 3 years and 2.5mil. I know which deal I would take for my family.

Souths wouldn’t guarantee Adam a second year!

My opinion on the whole situation has completely changed. I want Reyno to stay on one year deals so badly. Love the bloke and he is a club legend. I'll be absolutely heartbroken if he goes. But my opinion on it has changed, I agree with the club's stance in only offering him the one year. It's a tough, business decision and sadly, that's just the situation we are in. Despite him being a club legend, the club has to plan for the future and can't go all in on the one player at the detriment of so many other areas. We're not being disloyal, we have made him a fair offer and want him to stay.

South Sydney is the best place for Reyno and I can't understand why he won't just accept the one year and back himself.

But seriously guys, why all the negativity?? People are gonna right us off for the next five years because of a couple of players? Look, that may well happen but we just don't know. We might handle it well and carry on competing, you just don't know. So why can't we back our club and trust the process?

The year 2026 looms as the ideal time to introduce two-conference system, says Phil Gould: https://wwos.nine.com.au/nrl/nrl-ne...il-gould/3dc461a0-7199-4179-ae7d-25d0e3d7ee93

Seriously though, he and Cartwright, and Marsters are the backups.

We signed Cartwright for 3 years right?
Why?
He was ok, but he is a in-betweener - too slow to be a true centre, too lightweight to be an edge forward

As listed on the Souths website
Jed Cartwright 104kg
Jaydn Sua 100kg

Burns, Cartwright and Marsters will all be on peanuts. Very little to do with the current cap issues

The nrl hasnt got enough players for 17 or 18 competitive teams
