Melbourne and particularly Brisbane were disappointing considering it was the first they hosted it.

Hopefully Kayo figures will have the NRL edge ahead of the AFL.
they got 4.1 million when their streaming was included
so they beat us fairly comfortably for the GF by 500K

we had a 325K odd lead ( streaming est) going into the GF
so they just got us by about 175K over the entire final series ... 16.9 million to 16.725

they beat us by about 3 million last year

When it comes to tv it’s the $’s they are willing to pay that matters most to a sport.
its the amount of scoring & adds that the fumblers have in a telecast & thats the only reason they have a slightly bigger deal

if we go to 4 quarters we could easily cover the gap & surpass it

Bit simplistic; audience size and metro reach (which is what gets reported and what advertising looks at), advertising space (for FTA), subscription numbers (for PTV), amount of content and competition for rights are the key value drivers. Given we have larger subscriber base we SHOULD be getting more from PTV than AFL. Given they have better metro ratings, more content and more ads they should be getting more for FTA (though we also have value of Origin which should offset a lot of their value gap). We also have every game in its own slot which they dont so they have cross over audiences, again meaning we should be more valuable there.

We were told that the only reason AFL got more than us from Fox last time was they were angry at the NRL's negotiation tactics, yet we now here that Fox have extended with them for more than last time!
Of course we dont know what Fox is paying us as Vlandys continues to hide it away.

AFL are looking at making Thursday night a permanent slot and maybe even Monday night, if they do that their will be no crossover games.

regionals are reported as well
NSW the ACT & QLDs regionals a market bigger then WA & SA combined
( metro & regionals in those states ) there for more valuable

& what we know about the awfuls extended deal with foxtel is

"The extension of the rights deal resets the discounts associated with COVID and is financially little changed from the original 2017-22 agreement," a Foxtel spokesman said.

just because you fall for fumbler spin doesn't mean everyone does

little changed but an increase none the less on a deal that was supposedly only so large to punish NRL at the time. Hmmmm.

re regional v metro, yes sizeable population but the media advertising spend is tiny when comparing.

'Currently, only 10% of national media budgets are spent regionally, despite 36% of the country’s population living there.'

I think despite baselinepanther finding every excuse in the book we are further off than we think. The reason being the rabbitohs and Panthers are big teams and the game was Sunday night in primetime and was almost a million behind in the cities from what i saw. Melbourne and Bulldogs are 2 of the 3 smallest afl teams in victoria and Saturday isn't as prime time as Sunday. In every other sense this is the closest head to head measuring stick we can have in comparing ratings for two similar events, so it's pretty disappointing to see the gap is that large.

Penrith are far from a "big team"........
