After week 1 of the tournament nobody would have picked Samoa to make the final after having 60 put on them by England.
Today they were outclassed by the world champions who worked over their middles then exposed the edges. Milford didn't have the best game and once CHT was taken out they lost some direction. The Samoans don't have the depth Australia have.
They never gave up and should be absolutely proud of their effort given the side they had out there. A few things didn't go their way either but they just got on with it. If they had a decent 7, a legit 9 and better bench forwards it would have been closer.
Australia weren't at their best and still managed to win due to the heroics of Yeo, Murray and Martin.
Cleary was decent but his goalkicking was horrible, Tedesco was ok but the other spine players were garbage.

Exactly. Samoa were completely written off after the first game and some even predicted they'd be knocked out in the Group stage but what a turnaround and its whats good about the tournament is the unpredictable results.

Last week's semi final certainly took a lot out of them but their effort in the final this morning is something they should be proud of. I though the Aussies couldve put a few more tries in but Samoa's defence at times were great and the effort from the forwards were amazing. Well done Samoa for getting this far.

As for the Aussies, they were too good. Not as dominant and not great but they have players that are classy in big moments. Munster's pass to Tedesco was too good and Cleary's pass to Murray would be hard to stop at the NRL level. And the Fox was brilliant all tournament which shows that he shouldve played Origin.

NZ might get a couple of places in a combined Pacifica team.

NZ were full strength, they don't have depth without plundering their neighbours. Sad.
What a weird troll. It's like you're a Northern Hemisphere rugby journalist from 20 years ago.

There's two players in the current squad not born in NZ. Kris who has Maori heritage and Sorenson who had two Uncles and a Grandfather play for the Kiwis.

Samoa were never really in this game but 30-10 is rather respectable given that many casuals probably would've expected them to lose by 40-50 points.

I think within the next World Cup or two we will see someone other than Australia, England or New Zealand win the World Cup, it just comes down to the powers that be taking the international game seriously and scheduling regular matches for all nations.

This Samoan team for example should be playing together 5-6 times a year at a minimum as should every other side.

I look at that Samoan team in the past few games and its like those players want to play for each other every year. The only thing how often per year or at all.

You're right about the powers for the International game and whether they will stage more matches. Do they keep the non NRL game weekend for International matches? Who knows.

You hear them say they want to spread the International game and play more matches but they have to back it up.

Yeah because they now play for Tonga and Samoa

I reckon if a WC were held every two years, I think it would shore up and strengthen the countries just behind Australia and quicken the development of the weaker nations.

People now writing off NZ are a bit simple minded, Australia only just beat them.
JAC has been sensational since SOO, he showed if he continues this form why he should be picked. His for prior to SOO showed why he wasn't picked.
Cleary finally had a decent rep game, maybe the monkey is off his back.
The AC incident was never a send off, 10 in the bin understandable. If that was a send off then so was crichton's clip on cleary in the air after the kick. Too many people think things are sendoffs just because who the culprit plays for.

Was ordinary game by Klein, the 40/20, Australia in the tackles too long and Samoa hardly ever square at markers are some examples

Klein was pretty awful both ways.
Bumping To’o in the air has been a penalty all season unless there was different rules for the WC.
Hands all over the ball in the ruck from both teams, flops from both teams.
The sloppy ruck probably benefited Samoa more which kept the score somewhat close, but it was terrible officiating.

Not in that circumstance. To'o's leap is what carried him into Addo-Carr in the first place. His leap is what caused him to collide and then go ass end up.

The results were expected but neither of the Australian Teams were ever in danger of losing and both had a lot more gears in them if required.

Rather disappointing finals as competitive games especially the Women's one as New Zealand were pretty poor to say the least.

Great that the crowd held up yesterday. Would have been an amazing atmosphere if England had got there, but that’s all water under the bridge. Shame that women’s final was so one-sided but Australia looked very good. In the Men’s final, let’s face it, Australia were extremely unlikely to lose that, but Samoa did themselves proud. Btw, that 40/20, didn’t the video ref comment? Not sure of the protocols, but looked obvious one. A few friends who are not massively into league cannot understand lack of use of neutral refs. You may say you need the best, that’s kind of subjective anyway, but a better look if neutral. I don’t think for a minute there was a bias yesterday, but you can see it looks a bit odd to some.
