Perhaps its time that Samoa got serious about developing its own juniors instead of relying on NRL clubs
Small nation

but with a huge diaspora

next year they want Tonga and. Samoa playing home tests in their nations which will be massive

the arlc has had samoa and tonga fall into their lap

this rivalry can easily match or surpass origin

Lets hope they mean home tests in Samoa and Tonga and not Sydney.

What a weird troll. It's like you're a Northern Hemisphere rugby journalist from 20 years ago.

There's two players in the current squad not born in NZ. Kris who has Maori heritage and Sorenson who had two Uncles and a Grandfather play for the Kiwis.
Not what I said Nuffy. Now they see they can win without playing for Oz or NZ, those with Samoan, Fiji, Tongan ancestory are choosing to play for them. NZ have no depth in patriotic NZ players.

After week 1 of the tournament nobody would have picked Samoa to make the final after having 60 put on them by England.
Today they were outclassed by the world champions who worked over their middles then exposed the edges. Milford didn't have the best game and once CHT was taken out they lost some direction. The Samoans don't have the depth Australia have.
They never gave up and should be absolutely proud of their effort given the side they had out there. A few things didn't go their way either but they just got on with it. If they had a decent 7, a legit 9 and better bench forwards it would have been closer.
Australia weren't at their best and still managed to win due to the heroics of Yeo, Murray and Martin.
Cleary was decent but his goalkicking was horrible, Tedesco was ok but the other spine players were garbage.
Teddy is a bad hog

Trbojevic or Papenhuyzen would be a massive upgrade.

Even Mitchell honestly we don’t need a FB that wants to do everything over and over again he got in the way. Just use the ball, you have a million outside backs just chime in when needed and use the ball.

Chrichton (Angus) suspended for 2 games for his high shot on Harris Tavita. Probably get to serve them in the trials.

Teddy is becoming Gallenesque in his ball hogging.

This is possibly the game they should take to the US instead of a NRL comp game.
Play it in an area with a large Polynesian population. Hawaii, California, Utah and maybe The Rock might do another clip in support.

Good idea if the American Samoans (as opposed to Western Samoa) get on board too.
Samoa v Tonga and Ireland (again, plenty of support) or GB XIII vs the Tomahawks. Probably draw the GB XIII from the SL second tier.

What is a Nuffy? Why the name calling? We're not little kids. (Well I guess that's an assumption on my part, I could be wrong and you might be).

Your statement isn't true anyway, there's probably two players in the Tongan team that would make the Kiwis, the Kiwis have a bunch of Samoan players and the better Samoa players are the Origin guys who have little or no connection to NZ anyway.

That’s what I meant

they want them in Samoa and tonga

they won’t be in Sydney worst case scenario it will be Auckland again

Annual tri series
1x Apia
1 x Nuku'alofa
1 x decider which rotates between Australia and NZ

First two games to raise local interest. Third to make some money.

Do the same with Fiji and PNG (but maybe third always in QLD).

An annual 3 match series would be massive

good point about the final game to make money

I really hope the arlc does this as it’s something that can get rugby league massive world wide popularity. All the union fans would go nuts for it

Long term yes, Short term they need to build up money. We all saw the photos of fans celebrating, Strike while the iron is hot and get some coin in.

US is the next market RL is trying to tap Samoa over there annually looks a good start

Australia hadn't played for years. It is perfectly reasonable that they lost ranking places by refusing to play. Personally they should have been docked more or fined for not turning up to the world cup when it was originally scheduled.

It was not Australia alone. IIRC, New Zealand RL also said they weren't going either had it been held in 2021.

Great that the crowd held up yesterday. Would have been an amazing atmosphere if England had got there, but that’s all water under the bridge. Shame that women’s final was so one-sided but Australia looked very good. In the Men’s final, let’s face it, Australia were extremely unlikely to lose that, but Samoa did themselves proud. Btw, that 40/20, didn’t the video ref comment? Not sure of the protocols, but looked obvious one. A few friends who are not massively into league cannot understand lack of use of neutral refs. You may say you need the best, that’s kind of subjective anyway, but a better look if neutral. I don’t think for a minute there was a bias yesterday, but you can see it looks a bit odd to some.

In terms of "neutral" referees, the panel for the World Cup were those who are full time professional, which means those in the UK SL and the NRL. It is not like in soccer where they have a huge pool from many leagues around the world where they can draw officials from. Heck I can remember watching a French referee handle Australia v New Zealand tests in the 1980s and no one from the players to the TV commentators knew what the heck was going on as the referee didn't not speak much english. As such it saw penalties given for things which at times were real nitpicking.

As to the video referee, its use in the WC shows up the problems with its use in the NRL. Yes the touch judge fluffed it with his non-call, but considering there was no break in play, why would you want the video referee intervening? you would have had to stop play for it, and then you'd have people expecting the video referee to look at every possible call when there was any shadow of doubt. I thought generally speaking, the use of the video referee in this word cup was light years in front because it was limited in what it was used for and human errors from the match officials was tolerated, and not this "they have top be perfect 100% of the time" that our RL media here in Australia demand all the time. I mean did we have as much carry on about refereeing errors during coverage that we do on Nine or Fox during NRL match coverage? Nope, and it was quite refreshing to be honest.

How dumb does the decision to drop the mid season test weekend look now? Should have gone the other way, moved origin to weekend to create three test weekends. Its not like ch9 get more viewers anymore on a weds night!

Could have had tonga v samoa etc mid season and kept the end of season calendar for big tournaments.

Agree it’s a real shame they have killed the mid year Pacific Tests. It’s too much to hope that they bring them back in a couple of years.
