It's the 1st game after the off season, I would imagine fatigue plays a role. Kicking the ball out on the full, it happens especially when the ball is wet, pouring down rain high humidity.

NZ had the lead so Luai kicking on the 3rd tackle was ridiculous in the first place. Just awful game management but luckily thats not his job here

Only focusing on those last two plays from our boys is ridiculous to say the least lol James especially was immense tonight (and Luai great whenever they decided to play to him) and as pointed out was awarded the best player on the field.

If anything all tonight did was reassure me that two of our superstars from last season will be leading the charge again in 2021.

Switch JFH with any other maori forward playing League besides Tohu Harris and they don't win that game. Those two are the only Maori guys with the stamina to work like that. The Maori team were looking exhausted and barely hanging in there. They don't tie without him.

Fish was best on Ground and Luai was solid. Those two plays were unforgivable if it was during the regular season. Likely fatigue being the first game back. First few games are always like that.

Its crazy that Api is such a good defender given how small he is. We genuinely missed him in the middle defensively last year when he wasn't there.

You should see Api without a shirt on. His muscles seem out of portion with small he is. Dude's absolutely jacked.

Judging by Ivan’s comments yesterday, he is not relenting to the media pressure about releasing Burton this season. And plans to play him at left centre in next weeks trial if Crichton hasn’t overcome his ankle injury.

Even Burtons comment seems like he has resigned himself to his fate of staying at the Panthers in 2020.

Totally happy if that’s the way it plays out this season. We can cover our other roster gaps without needing to trade Burton to do it.

Meanwhile, Burton spent an hour at left centre and Cleary said he will play there against Parramatta next Saturday should Stephen Crichton fail to overcome a niggling ankle injury. The coach said Api Koroisau was the only other player who was a chance to skip the Eels hit-out.

Burton has made plenty of headlines with the Bulldogs determined to have the playmaker at their club before the start of this season.

Cleary has repeatedly said Burton will be staying put in his final year at the club, and reiterated “just go to the archives and look at what I’ve said”.
″He covers some key spots for us, including the halves - nothing has changed there,” Cleary said.

Burton told The Sun-Herald: “I’d like to play in the halves, that’s my preferred position, but I’m enjoying it at centre at the moment and I’m learning.

When pressed if he wanted to be at Penrith this season, Burton said: “Yeah, for sure. There’s been a lot of noise. I can only focus on working hard and doing my job.

“By the looks of it I’m here. I just want to play footy at the end of the day. I’d like to be in the starting team every week.”

Agree wit you there. Even if Momo beats him for the right centre starting position, he is perfect cover for both him and Crichton, as well as Nathan and Luai for the halves, and May as the bench utility. So should still play plenty of first grade games this season.

And he is another player that looks to have jacked up during the preseason! Especially if you compare to the photos of him to when he made his debut.

It will be kind of sad to see him sit in reserve grade all year knowing he's keen for some footy in the top grade and good enough for it.
