Luai put in an awful kick. No excuses for him. As a half he should both be able to execute his kicks better and choose when to kick better. If youre going to waste tackles kicking early there needs to be perfect execution and reason for it.

The JFH penalty was hardly unforgivable though. In that situation he needs to react quickly and cut down on their time to try a sneak play close to the line . It turned the game into a draw. But for all we know it could have stopped them from losing with them opting for the 2. Ideally he never gives that penalty away obviously. But i think the circumstances kind of created a perfect storm for his error in judgement/timing. In 99% of play the balls they would have picked it up by then.

Is the new rule a scrum if it goes out early in the set? I thought only a handover on the last. I reckon we see more early kicks

Not everyone can play in every situation though that is my point

He was a half, playing in the halves, performing a task a half does. Not exactly outside his skill set.

I don't really care too much. The reaction to mentioning it was funnier to me. There's this automatic knee jerk response to defend them because they play for us and it's hilarious.

He isn't an organiser though. In some cases he would be 3rd choice kicker. So it was good he had the confidence to go for the play.

Not that for me. More just people getting too carried away with a nothing game

I think it's just because it's all we've got so far. Next week will help discussion a little after we play Eels.

I’ll admit that I can’t help but defend the players because they play for us, but that makes way more sense to me than to attack them with the exact same sort of knee jerk reaction lol I’m not talking about you in particular but it just seems to be the first reaction for a fair few posters on these forums.

Before that all the discussion was how good they looked. People were just saying what they saw.

3rd choice?! He's a half so 1st or 2nd option. And given pressure likely to be applied to Cleary in those situations, Luai needs to be ready to execute. He didn't last night.

And its not about the game. Its about reactions to any criticism of our players - it's funny.

Well you are talking about a trial for starters. Unlimited interchange. Pouring rain high humidity

Players in different roles then whinging they stuffed up
Who whinged? Apart from those trying to gloss over the errors.

It was a costly error from each of them in the context of the game. It makes no difference what kind of game it is, an error is an error. No one has suggested they get fired into the sun for it. Just made mention of it. The way some are defending it I reckon give it another 24 hours & they will spin it as a potential match winning play.

Fish was huge pretty much all game & fully deserved the Preston Medal. I can see what he was trying to do on that play, but it's still a f**k up no matter how you colour it in.

Luai looked sharp early in the match, but patchy after half time. A lot of that was probably down to game plan, he & Benji didn't play the same way as they did to start.

Nice post.

Luai seemed to fade out of the game but it was more with Benji increasing his involvement. Overall both players had good games (Fish was much better than good). Both would be disappointed with their errors late in the game though.

I had the game recorded on the Foxbox, cut off 5 minutes early. I thought the boys had a great game. I won't bother to watch the replay.

I believe terms like ‘f**king embarrassing’ were used lol that just seems so unnecessary to me but each to their own really!

I was 10+ beers deep so I'll concede f**king embarrassing was too far. It was just really embarrassing to see a half make such an awful decision
