NZ a population of about 5 million people competing in a sport they obviously get behind back in NZ but you couldn't say that worship it like they do in India, India has a population of well over 1 billion people.
It's remarkable India haven't made the finals at least, they have the biggest T20 league going around. The cricketing world stops while the IPL takes place, you get on facebook and they'll lead you to believe Kohli is the second coming of Don Bradman (he goes to water every time India require a big innings from him, the team seems to follow him in that regard). How he is still the captain has me beaten, Indian cricket is 100% all about Kohli and Kohli consistently fails in high pressure games, yet if you try put that across to any Indian fan you'll be lucky to get out alive.
India's biggest success in recent times was when India beat Australia in Australia in a Test series, ironically.. Kohli left that tour early. I don't think it's a coincidence.
Is NZ over achieving? I don't know, I try not to look at it like that, they've done well and deserve everything they've achieved, India on the other hand.. what can anyone possibly say to excuse their embarrassing displays against the top teams? 10 wicket loss to Pakistan, 8 wicket loss to NZ.. they'll probably beat Scotland in emphatic fashion but it counts for nothing.
I have seen the common excuse from Indians "IPL has ruined our players", how? I highly doubt playing T20 cricket on the cusp of a T20 world cup is ruining anyone, they're just not as good as their captain leads them to believe that they are. That's what it boils down to me, if they have the nerve to remove their national hero from captaincy, I suspect Indian cricket will nearly instantly get better results. I also think Kohli will sook it up and won't be the same player that he once was, having said that.. it's been over 700 days since he last scored a century for India.
Gone on a bit here but nothing agitates me more than the way Indians carry on about their cricket team, they've won fkn nothing, not since Dhoni.
