Souths Logan Magpies have officially announced that long-serving CEO Jim McClelland will step down effective October 1, 2022.

It is with this in mind, that the Magpies are incredibly excited to announce that McClelland's replacement will be the club's current first-grade coach, Steve Bretherton.

Given Bretherton’s new role as CEO, the Magpies are equally excited to announce Karmichael Hunt as Bretherton’s replacement as head coach for 2023.

Vale Michael Purcell

The Queensland Rugby League wish to express the game's sincere condolences to the family, friends and team mates of Michael Purcell.

Purcell, a prodigiously talented player who starred in Queensland representative teams and the Hostplus Cup, sadly passed away over the weekend aged 28.

A try-scoring whiz known as the ‘kangaroo catcher’ by the wider rugby league community, Purcell starred for both the Ipswich Jets and Brisbane Tigers in Queensland’s premier competition.

Round 20
The final weekend of regular round fixtures in the Hostplus Cup will be played this week with plenty going on the line for a number of teams.

The top eight is yet to be decided with teams needing to win to secure their finals berth.

Teams out of contention for the finals will be doing their best to end their seasons on a high note and can throw a few spanners in the works, with the competition proving on many occasions that upset can happen in any round.

Darren 'Dezie' Nicholls has travelled far and wide to further his playing career, but now that career is drawing close to an end.

The current captain of the Brisbane Tigers, his rugby league career started with Holy Cross Rhinos and he since moved to Balmain, Wests Tigers, Mounties, North Sydney, Norths Devils, Wyong Roos, Brisbane Broncos, Redcliffe Dolphins, Penrith Panthers, St George Illawarra, Souths Logan Magpies and Brisbane Tigers.

Now 78 Hostplus games later, Nicholls is nearing the end.

The final round game for the Tigers will be against the Tweed Seagulls this week, but Nicholls is determined that won’t be his last game for the club and that they are finals bound.

If Nat Neale was a pub meal, he’d be steak and chips with a beer. Nothing too exotic, not too fancy, but always can be relied upon to hit the spot.

The captain of the Ipswich Jets has decided to call time on a Cup journey that started in 2011 and has netted 180 games for the club, making him the third most capped Jet.

Once he hangs up the boots following this weekend, the dependable prop will be 34th on the list of most caps in Hostplus Cup, drawing alongside his front row foe Luke Page.

On Saturday against the Northern Pride, Neale will play his last Cup game.

The Queensland Rugby League is proud to highlight the importance of mental health and wellbeing during the Hostplus Cup’s Turn to Me Round this weekend.

This initiative, instigated by former Cup players Isaak Ah Mau, Petero Civoniceva and administrator Steve Johnson, is supported by the fundraising efforts of Swich On Inc each year.

All Cup players and match officials will wear blue socks that are a symbol of the round, which will carry extra significance this year following recent tragedies within the rugby league community.
