2022 Knights Rep Players

The Queenslanders rave on about Ponga. Even Cam Smith and the ex players. I think we are too critical of Ponga sometimes. He played a really good game on Wednesday. Let DCE and Munster run the show and inserted himself when he was needed. He also made a good over the top tackle on Yeo at the end as well.

I don't know if anyone else noticed but there was a set of six last night where channel 9 cut straight to the aerial camera and I noticed that KP was standing behind the ruck again and stayed there for basically the whole set. He did run up in support of forwards on one or two occasions but then on the next play was back in behind the ruck. Obviously he's been doing this a fair bit at club level much to most of our frustration but I wonder why he was doing at rep level. Did Billy coach him to be there or did he decide to do that himself or maybe it was part of some set play. I didn't watch closely enough after that to see if he was doing it for the rest of the game but it definitely stood out to me that he was doing it for that set at least.

I wonder if the reason for it is so that he can sum up the numbers and sweep to either side quickly or maybe the plan is that if a gap develops near a ball running forward then he can support for an inside pass or something.

Anyway it was interesting to see him doing it at rep level as well as at club level.
I think its time we accept its just because he's lazy.

QLD aren't paying him 1M+ though. I think he was fine for them for the most part.

I mean, he did what was necessary in a state of origin game that his team won. Also had some crucial involvements. I'm not bagging his performance as a whole, there were just a few moments here or there that were like wtf are you doing mate.

Watching Ponga and Gagai in SOO is a reminder of what could be if the Knights can surround our core group of NRL players with other NRL players and a sprinkling of natural born leaders, instead of reserve grade waterboys for the Cessnock Goannas

Taking a stab.

Cleary and Burton (especially) to toy with Ponga’s positioning.

Still expecting Maroons to get up.

Trained with Billy for another week. I reckon Ponga will catch every kick om the full.
Meh.
He catches kicks on the full all the time. Then falls to his arse, or looks for his winger just getting back.
If Slater can improve on that, Gardner should offer him the O’Brien ten year fallacy.
