AFL Seven 3.068 Metro: 2.186m Regional: 787,000 BVOD: 95,000
NRL Nine 2.765m Metro 1.674m Regional 697,000 BVOD 394,000

So with a drop off for both codes does this mean less people are watching sport? both games were blow outs and that impacted viewers? or less people are casually watching FTA with the advent of streaming?

The regional and BVOD numbers are interesting, Id have thought NRL would have had more regionals than AFL, and AFL BVOD seems surprisingly low?

I think a more important metric would be where these "programs" rank in terms of most watched for the year.

FTA TV viewing is clearly in decline, but live sport will be the anchor that all networks need to keep eyeballs on screens.

I also think looking at one-off numbers is not indicative of a total trend, and factors like long weekend after a long wet winter (and 2 years of rolling lockdowns) have likely meant people have decided to go away, no interstate teams in the NRL meant lack of interest nationally etc.

The flawed ratings system,

5000 odd ratings boxes, you get 50 watching Netflix or something. Then it drops the whole thing down. No co-indence that ratings have been lower since the boom of things like that.

Hell even 2010 had only standard channels, Who watches games like GF at home alone? which the data doesn't pick up

AFL was like 90% of FTA viewers at that time. In a country of 25m only 3.5m or so watching FTA tells a story

There’s still a rugby league World Cup lmao

but yeh the afl is done
When does the Fumbleball World Cup start? Will Australia be playing? Can't wait to see the ratings! I expect crowds in the thousands of seagulls.

Fewer people are watching FTA and sport. There's just more entertainment options these days. Both of these games were affected by their one-sided nature. If memory serves me Parramatta were $3.50 underdogs that week, so most people had low expectations of a close game (except one-eyed Eels fans). That said sport is still the number one go to for halo viewership for FTA.

It competes against Saturday afternoon crap. Of course it's going to get 90% share. Everyone who was interested in watching and didn't have other commitments like work etc watched it.

of course but How many people at Pubs/Clubs etc weren't counted?

All the big sporting events suffer the same issue

That's just how it is Oztam. Pubs/clubs running BVOD are counted though. More recently ratings services are polling Twitter reactions and do survey polling to get additional insight into such events. The NRL and AFL do in house surveys to use for sponsorship negotiations.

Yep and the system is flawed, Kayo knows what I watch yet it isn't counted in the offical ratings. Atleast not if I watch via a tile on the main screen

Haha nrl fans dont care about their national team :)
not sure if they capture everyone including those watching later in that? I watched it last night for example. Be good if they did an end of week tally of all ways of watching in this day and age.

I reckon you are deliberately a negative asshole to rile people up.

85k is incredible for a 5:30am game on a Sunday morning you absolute clown.

No, That is just him
Timmah, lamback I think for once you might have actually interpreted him wrong.
I think PR in this case was being genuine/ironic, 85 000 at 5.30 in the morning is bloody good, and as Bulldog2020 says I bet that doesn`t include Kayo or as Red said himself those who watched it later. So double it, 200 000 - now were talking.

Mate it was on five o’clock in the morning. How many people are you expecting to watch TV at that time?
