Well for starters, I have asked you many times for a link to the NRL TV and nothing. All we know is the FTA split

Occam’s Razor my friend. Even if we are all spitballing numbers regarding splits what is the most likely scenario if their headline figure is $200 odd million per annum above ours? That they got a considerably better deal?

I have said more than numerous times where is the $20m Fox are paying for the Dolphins?

Over $400m could be $401m or $499m. It doesn't tell much as to the actual figures though
haha thats not how things work. You don't announce "over" if it is a lot over! You want to get as much kudos as possible in these situations so if its $410 a year thats what you're announcing. Anything more and your def specifically announcing it! Fox are not paying 20mill as a separate payment from their tv deal. You think Vlandys wouldn't have fallen back on that with the recent heat he's been getting about the two deals? You think he forgot to mention it? lol

FTA is $130, SkyNZ was reported at the time as $32.4 thats $164.4mill. Fox paying $240ish takes it to "over" $400mill. Bingo we have our numbers.

But to your point its a very good question and one Vlandys needs to answer. Where is the alleged $20mill from Fox? Its certainly not showing as an increase on the Fox payment compared to 2017! Did he lie about it? Did he really give Fox an original deal that cost them $20mill less than 2017? Is the $20mill not accounted for in the tv deal? Hmmmmm, something smells fishy.

If the last deal was $323m from Fox, Why would it now be $50m less?

All though here:

According to reports in Australia earlier this month, the new deals are worth close to AUD$2 billion, although financial terms have not been formally released.

So a few years they have kept such details private

You have misread that report. It clearly says deals which refers to both of them together.

The $323 million per annum would be the sum of both of those deals (Fox and News) put together, not just Fox.

Regarding the $2 billion, you would have to factor in a seven year extension to Foxtel as well as a re-worked two year deal with Nine.

It's definitely not $499 million. Over $400 million could mean $410, $420 or $430 million.

It's definitely not $499 million. Over $400 million could mean $410, $420 or $430 million.

The rule is usually Pay TV being double FTA. This article states $450m

Still, industry sources claim the AFL will receive $100m a year more than the NRL’s $450m, a significant gap considering the broadcasting incomes for the two codes were similar a decade ago, allowing for the AFL providing one more game per week.

That likely includes the $20m from Fox, Again we likely won't know until the Financials to know either way

haha like I said no one is announcing a 450 deal as 'over 400'!

last deal was $385mill of which $125 was fta and $20 was sky
contra was around $24mill a year of which $10mill was nine and $14mill was Fox/Sky

The arlc incurred 30 million relocating the comp to Brisbane that’s saved now

and origins went back to full houses plus also the hosting fee paid by Perth which didn’t happen during covid

also full finals etc

the arlc already gave back extra last year to the players and clubs since the profit was greater than expected

I would’ve thought 100 million or so is what they should be making even after paying clubs 16 million pa which they really don’t need, even if the salary cap goes up to one million

people have missed that during covid vlandys still managed to give nrl clubs record funding whilst also making profits

ARLC getting hit with a 38m backpay claim this year though.

bottom line will depend on if they decide to start funding the grassroots back up to the pre covid level, and beyond hopefully. That's an extra $25mill plus they will need to be spending moving forward.
The cuts to grassroots could be seen in the CAS state championship debacle this year. SA unable to field any teams, farcical format and no CAS rep side and tour for first time in decades. But hey who needs grassroots when you have a surplus?

They paid out extra to players last year too and extra bonus to clubs

the deal was if the profit exceeded budget then the players and the clubs would each get one third of the extra to which they delivered

obviously this is something the afl can’t afford to do so clearly nrl players are the winners here

literally covid has had pretty much no lasting impact on rugby league

better hope the aflpa don’t get wind of this they will be dead set filthy they have been neglected

AFLPA negotiated the position with the AFL for the COVID period through the end of 2022 and the league made a loss last year...sooo nothing to get filthy about it.

So they aren’t getting the money they gave up during covid back but league players are getting most of it back

Jeeze where is vlandys getting all this money from

He cut costs and had some revenue increases.

The AFL took in $2 Billion more than the NRL over the last decade.

aflnrlprofit2012-21.png

The NRL generated 30 million more than the AFL in profit over the last decade. (104 to 134m)

those figures should make interesting reading to people who are worried that the afl having more than us (allegedly) is going to harm rugby league

That’s absolutely embarassing. Everybody involved in the management of our game should be ashamed of that.

Although I will add it is getting better or will be until their new deal comes in and then it is back to square one. If V’Landys does magically have an ace up his sleeve then that would be great

This is a weird graph. The graph only shows the asset value but the tables show all different things but it’s presented like that’s all shown in the graph.

From what I can tell there the AFL have far more liabilities and loans which at first glance is presented as a good thing.

The graph is presented like it’s a sum total of those things but only seems to be about total asset value.

Its really just showing net asset base as a total. Thing to remember is a big chunk of AFL's asset is Marvel stadium and a big chunk of their liability is a mortgage for that. As they pay down on that mortgage and marvel value keeps climbing their net asset total will grow significantly. I think we have seen it wise for a sport to have around $150mill cash equity available in case of emergency, then build up a revenue generating asset base for better credit rating should bad times hit and to obviously generate more profit the game can then reinvest. NRL's hotel purchase is the first investment I know of that the sport has made beyond its own internal areas like digital?
