I'd still be picking Wighton over Crighton. Crighton looked terrible game 2 and that was in a side that won by a lot. Thought the obvious move was Wighton off the bench at worst

Critter is out of his depth for sure but Jack is purely a left sided player. Not sure either should have the right centre spot.

I’ve read this script before

NSW head to QLD for a decider on the back of a big win. Start with a couple of nervous errors and then get penalised out of the game by the refs.

Everyone craps on about the QLD spirit. Gus is the worst.

Rinse and repeat.
Getting your "we wuz robbed" in early.

no room for him on the bench if we go for the 2 hooker option

Fair enough. I know the feeling well.

A lot is made of the 8 in a row, but 1990 to 2005 was pretty grim for QLD fans, only 3 outright series wins in 15 years (and 2 draws)
I didn’t realise NSW was so dominant in that era.

Those numbers are crazy. Especially when you consider how far ahead QLD is on series and total wins.

Qld is ahead on series wins largely due to their golden run during the first decade of Origin, and the second purple patch in the 2000's/ 2010's

Looking at Qld's overall W/L advantage, it's always worth considering that Brisbane has had 9 more Origin games than Sydney. They would need to play 3 straight series with every game in Sydney to even it up.

Home ground isn’t a guarantee of victory though. I’m sure it’s a factor but I’d be surprised if it’s terribly significant.

Too lazy to google though.

Game 3 in 2000 was probably the nadir of that run for QLD.

56 to 16 loss in a 3 game white wash (the infamous Bryan Fletcher grenade try celebration game).

At the time Origin just hadn't seen score lines like that, there was no 6 again rule and interchanges were higher in number. So that win was as dominant as you are ever likely to see.

He's going for 3 series wins out of 4. He likes to pick blokes who are going well in successful teams. Considering before him NSW lost 11 from 12 series by selecting media pinups I think Fittler's got a few runs on the board to play with.
My feeling is these wins have generally been in spite of Fittler's team selection not because of them. The talent he has at his disposal is far superior to the NSW coaches circa 2006-2013.

So take context into account before you annoint Fittler as a great coach. He was my favourite player as a young bloke but he has a habit of trying to outsmart himself at the selection table and it cost us in 2020 and game 1 this year.

McLean for Haas is a massive downgrade and there's probably at least 2-4 props I would have picked before McLean. Campbell-Gillard must be ropeable not getting picked for example.

If by screwing Qld you mean calling out Kaufusi for his historically repeated cynical plays in professional foul situations, yes you are correct.

Lets see them be consistent, I have no issue with the sin bin but it needs to be applied both ways.

I reckon he told Gould to get his nose out of the selection process after game one.
