The whole ‘they should have consulted with the players’ is a load of rot. What is actually gained by consulting a bunch of homophobes about whether manly should have a pride jersey.

When we have white nationalist refusing to play in indigenous round are we going to blame the clubs for not consulting them? It’s f**king bogus.

The whole thing is a farce and it’s just another example of people using religion as an excuse for bigotry.

It is what it is.

Plenty of players come from pretty conservative backgrounds. I reckon most people when dealt with in good faith can be turned around. Telling them less than a week before they gotta do this without any kind of attempt at education is straight up bullshit. I certainly don't agree with their position but I can appreciate how this has just simply been ambushed one.

Conversely, they've made their position clear, despite the backlash, they want to observe the homophobic element of their faith. But it's their lives, so good luck to them. Hopefully they can f**k off to some other club ASAP

Religious people are pretty dumb. Believing in shit with no evidence in this day and age is something I'll never understand. However, for some f**ked up reason, loads of people (including many NRL players) believe in a sky fairy with weird ideas.

However, I don't actually believe that those 7 'hate' gay people. They just think it's bad due to their faith. Thats different to hate.

More importantly, how dumb are the sea eagles management? They knew they had a lot of religious players and something like this might happen.

I wonder how the 7, their families and friends feel about the fact that some of their wealth comes from LBGTQIA money.
I wonder how they feel about one of these people cheering for them on the field, meeting at a fan day or getting a jersey signed. These people unconditionally support them because they play for the club they love. The club asks them to wear a jersey to support and recognise these people back and they refuse.
The game and the people that follow it are diverse and surely they would have known that before signing a lucrative contract.
Grow up.

Sounds like you’re asking them to think

There are way more Christian’s in the nrl than gays. Should have a ‘religion’ round where they all pray and drink wine at half time to be fully inclusive for the Christian brothers.

Buy the Manly pride jersey, take it to a Manly meet and greet and ask them to sign it, watch them squirm, profit.

So Wolverine and Thor got their Jerseys like a month ago but management didn't think to tell anyone at the club about it until this week.

f**k me why did my club have to be one taken over by the people who's fortune is in selling weight loss crap to Americans?

Isn't this what multiculturalism is though? People coming from different cultures and importing that culture into society. It's a difficult one because I'm not sure you can have it both ways. As integration is basically considered racist, how can you have a go at people for being true to their culture when that is what is actively encouraged. The players gathering on the field in prayer is praised as beautiful by commentators.

If you want to go down the road of multiculturalism rather than multi-race then this is what you get, unless you want to pick and choose which parts of their culture they can't express. Maybe a list can be put together. Like it or not, religion influences a large part of the culture in a lot of countries.

For what it's worth, I am an atheist and I am certainly not condoning what they are doing. I think all religion is stupid to be honest, but I'm just trying to look at it from another angle. The culture of Australia sees it (not wearing the jersey) as the wrong thing to do and theirs, it would appear doesn't. So...
