There are way more Christian’s in the nrl than gays. Should have a ‘religion’ round where they all pray and drink wine at half time to be fully inclusive for the Christian brothers.

Isn't this what multiculturalism is though? People coming from different cultures and importing that culture into society. It's a difficult one because I'm not sure you can have it both ways. As integration is basically considered racist, how can you have a go at people for being true to their culture when that is what is actively encouraged. The players gathering on the field in prayer is praised as beautiful by commentators.

If you want to go down the road of multiculturalism rather than multi-race then this is what you get, unless you want to pick and choose which parts of their culture they can't express. Maybe a list can be put together. Like it or not, religion influences a large part of the culture in a lot of countries.

For what it's worth, I am an atheist and I am certainly not condoning what they are doing. I think all religion is stupid to be honest, but I'm just trying to look at it from another angle. The culture of Australia sees it (not wearing the jersey) as the wrong thing to do and theirs, it would appear doesn't. So...

I agree with pretty much all of this but are they not picking and choosing which parts of their religion to believe in? I haven't read that long-winded nursery rhyme but perhaps there is a hierarchy of sinning with homosexuality being top of the pops.
Wouldn't it be nice if that fantasy tome included a character, say son of God or equally important to the plot, who treated all people (lepers, prostitutes, the general downtrodden and marginalised) with compassion, understanding and acceptance. There's a character you could build a religion upon...

It is mate. But just like we don’t tolerate honour killings, which is a thing for some cultures, we shouldn’t tolerate homophobia just because it’s hiding behind religious beliefs. People here are mainly calling out the hypocrisy given that they’re happy to wear kit covered in gambling or alcohol logos in spite of their bible’s teachings. They’re clearly selective in which bits of the bible they’re prepared to stand up for and should be called out for it.

And remember, this offending jersey celebrating inclusion of a marginalised community wouldn’t be required in if not for the fact that this community is marginalised in the first placed because of Christianity. Homosexuality was tolerated and boringly normal in Pagan times. Their religion also prides itself on compassion which none is being displayed here. Jesus mixed with sinful prostitutes didn’t he?

I like to think theses guys would’ve eventually come ‘round if the club didn’t fail them, sadly.

Yeah...maybe these guys, rather than mindlessly believing in and following everything 'God' says, should be selective about which parts of it might be damaging to others if they blindly go along with it?

Stick with the no work on the Sabbath thing, that's fine. No harm, no foul. Alcohol and gambling, a lot of them already ignoring it - check. I'm sure there's some other fluff that doesn't get subscribed to as well. Then hey, this thing about no gay people...think if God had his time again, he'd leave that out. After all, he created all people in his image, so it says. Including people who are attracted to the same gender. You'd have to take a bit of a risk that you're going to hell, but even then - no one is saying you have to BE a homosexual, just that you should change your views on how immoral it is, and if Scott Penn asks you to wear a jersey with a few colours on it, just run with it. He's not asking you to stand on the float at Mardi Gras.

The players can be openly Christian and they are. They can do little prayer circles on field or whatever nonsense they want. Yet if the players get asked to wear a bit of colour saying gay people are as welcome one third of a squad nopes out.

So what do we need religion round for?
