Just watched the baby broncos game to get ready for this.
You have a 30 man squad. You must pick your side from that squad or else seek an exemption which I guarantee would not be forthcoming in this situation. Are there any other rules covering the selection of teams? With the sheer number of players being rested, would the NRL have any grounds to issue Penrith a show cause for deliberately degrading the product? Channel 9 could certainly be within their grounds to complain also.
its going back 25 years but Easts were ordered by the ARL to change their named team after picking basically a reserve grade side for the final round given their finals spot was assured.

I thought it was the Travis Burns Cup?the brett firman cup
expect a few bodies to get rested from penrith, considering the sharks have newcastle i cant see us claiming 2nd spot back,. Not being rubbish against a top 4 team would be nice though
The Coote CupI thought it was the Travis Burns Cup?
I'd imagine he's considered this. The last team to avoid the Storm got their head handed to them in pretty short order, that being the 2020 Roosters in letting Souths win in the last round. Any team that wins this premiership will have to face Storm, Roosters, and Panthers. You might get lucky and avoid one of them but you can't avoid them all. Better in my view as the leader of a team not to display fear of any team.A bit of a strange decision from Cleary IMO naming that side for the reasons I have stated previously.
Especially since he could have made 5 changes prior to the 24 hour cutoff in the event Parra win which would have enabled him to not name a few players and then bring out 5 others if it becomes a dead rubber.
Now he can't play any of them and could well be on a collision course with storm week 1 which is a scenario they could have changed.
with the rest - id back Penrith to beat Melbourne or Parramatta at home, especially that they play each other tomorrow night for the second chance - so it will be a high intensity game.
personally I think Luai and Fish dont need another week off, they've had their rest recently, so they should be in better shape then those being rested.

The Panthers won't be the Storm's preferred week 1 opponent either I don't suppose, but they won't avoid them either.
Taylan May has been found guilty of a malicious assault that happened last October. Why was he allowed to play this season.I’m disappointed that we are resting so many; I just think that winning is a habit. But I trust the coach.
I do think there is an element of confidence in the decision; it’s saying that as long as we are fit, we are confident we can beat anyone Week 1 of the Finals.
NAS maliciously assaults someone all the time.Taylan May has been found guilty of a malicious assault that happened last October. Why was he allowed to play this season.
Because the no fault stand down policy only applies to the absolute worst crimes carrying 11+ years behind bars. Or in special circumstances as the NRL sees fit (ie. domestic violence)Taylan May has been found guilty of a malicious assault that happened last October. Why was he allowed to play this season.
Why would we be concerned about playing the Storm week 1? We're going have to beat them eventually, may as well do it on our home track.
Won't be long before Easts are winning the MP by a stretch, then you'll have the luxury of doing the same. With the sheer number of players being rested, would the NRL have any grounds to issue Penrith a show cause for deliberately degrading the product? Penrith reggies are $6.20, so the Cows won't be exactly playing out of their skin. I predict they'll bring on their replacements with 30 mins to go. It'll more likely resemble a pre-season trial match.I’d laugh my arse off if we still manage a win.
