It's f**king game day bitches!!!!

(Not calling anyone in particular bitches, but it's something kids say these days so just trying to keep up with the times)

Coming off winning the big dance (again, another stolen colloquialism) do we still have the desire and fire in our bellies (I'm just full of the cliches today) to put in a "premiership winning side" performance this season? I, personally, say YES WE DO.

Without the God among men (Cleary) can we compete against the likes of Manly as out first hit out? With the glint of tears still lingering in my eyes from that glorious Grand Final win, I think we most definitely can, and will.

It's going to be a tough ask for the boys to get back up and compete, especially since we'll have the entire comp gunning for us to lay claim a win against the dream team of 2021, but I think with the addition of the young blood into the group that desire will infect the already winning players.

My personal feelings toward this season are something of a mixed bag. We won it. After a bloody long time, and some really tough seasons, we f**king did it. So I find myself coming into this season with mixed expectations. We could go back to back, and that would be better than a blowjob on your birthday, but the old Panther in me can't help but to expect a pretty mediocre year... I know, I know, this team is different, and I hear you. I believe. I really do.

Anyway, I can't wait for the footy! It's been a long time since we've come into a season as premiers, and I f**king love it!

Happy game day everyone.

Hope that the rain stays away.

Hope that everyone is safe and well.

Wish I was able to be there (in the flesh) so to speak.

Gambling has been around since Adam was in short pants. Banning such things tend to cause more issues than it solves. (see USA 1920's)

Also adults (yep folks like you or me) need to take some personal responsibility for keeping their lives in check). If you have addiction issues, you obviously keep away from all forms of gambling, or hold yourself to account.

Hopefully with a vocal Penrith crowd at their back, giving them inspiration. Penrith win.

We usually go ordinary after winning the competition. Will be interesting to see how we go

2004 Penrith reached the finals. Only beaten by the dogs who won the title that year.

Hardly 'going ordinary'.

they finished 4th. Got the week off after winning week 1 of the finals by a point.

If we win only 1 finals game this year is that a good year?

With virtually the same squad then after that fell away

Certainly not how you would of expected it to play out given the age of the squad. Particularly when several members of that side went on to win premierships with other clubs

That is a sweeping statement which isn't factual, especially when you consider Wests Tigers won the title in 2005 and in 2006 came 11th.

That is 'going ordinary' after a grandfinal win.

Not 4th and being in the finals.

And 2005, 2006 and 2007 gets overlooked?

Fact is 1991 and 2003 we won the comp with young rosters that you would expect to hang around the top.

Neither did that. Lets see if this squad can do a Roosters or a Storm and push for more premierships going forward

I was looking at the year after.

1992......we all know what happened in that year, derailed the club badly.

2004 We came 4th.

I agree though the club needs to step up and maintain the rage at the top of the table.

All that will be out the window if the ref starts blowing ruck penalties to let them out of their end. First game with the new rule it wouldn't surprise.
Just remember it goes both way. The Sea Eagles is probably more invested in the rules being this way than us. This was their CEO the other day.
The Sea Eagles possess an electrifying back line include the likes of Tom Trbojevic, Reuben Garrick and Jason Saab, whose playing style Penn believes draws off-field engagement.

“I’m very confident we can entertain the same way we have but we want to make sure the game isn’t slowed down,” Penn told the Daily Telegraph.

“Our boys have been very successful at throwing the ball around and entertaining. That is what fans want to see more of as well. We have a lot of fast players and we want to take advantage of it. Our (television) ratings increase on the back of expansionary play.

“The x-factor we are a little concerned about is this rule change with the penalty inside the 40 metres. It was a six again compared to it now being a stop play.

“We would have preferred to stay the way it was because we seem to be able to take advantage of that.”

Penn believes the changse were made to stop teams using the previous rule to their advantage, either way defensive sides will still find a way to slow the game down.

“Of course, yeah, yes. And that’s something we’re definitely wary of (teams slowing down his side). All the teams that have done well in the last five years or so have been very good at play the ball speed and moving the ball,” Penn said.

The new rule changes will be in full flight tomorrow when the Sea Eagles head to BlueBet Stadium when they take on the Panthers in their first clash of the season on Thursday night.

This will be the first loss in a number you will have endure this year because it’s seems r&r didn’t get their sums right and were garrotted by greedy player agents.

Against that, you took full advantage of your window last year with plenty of courage and a touch of luck.

I’m afraid, you’re just going to have to face that the cycle of league-the possibility that human like the rest of us.

Look on the bright side, you will come to enjoy wins with far more vigour.

You’ve had a grand few years, the wonder of smug.

But what the league doth gives us, she taketh away. She is a cruel and heartless mistress.

My advice would be to chill a bit and respect thy footy Gods.

4 points from the first 6 rounds until Nate is back. There will plenty of pressure to rush him back, but that would be very unwise.

Tonight promises to be an wholly unmitigated disaster. The last rites are being given now.

Better to have smugged and lost than to never have smugged at all.

Anything less than an 18 point drubbing should be seen as promising and a victory of sorts.

92 gets a pass

Api at is the only player at 30

Yeo even at 28 should be just hitting his peak

Lets say Cleary retires at 35. Anything less then 3 premierships in that time is a waste given the age of the squad

if 92 gets a pass, well then 2004 must also get a pass.

A game where injuries abounded, girlder had to retire because of injury. Wesser carried a dread hammy into the game and strugged.

So in the year following Penrith did quite OK, without being amazing.

2004 wasn't the issue. It was the free fall from then on

Whatuira winning the comp with Tigers. Despite knowing Girds was retiring
Rodney and Galuvao winning the comp together at Manly
Letting Wallace and Gower both leave within a season

All is down to poor management

That's not what you said in your original comment.

'We usually go ordinary after winning a premiership'.

say Tommy goes down injured tonight - can anyone genuinely see DCE steering Manly to an away win?

i think the Parra trial was just like Souths in Week 1 last year - a kick up the bum we needed :)

we'll be on tonight without Clez - we will be hard to beat.

Manly will be praying is stays dry - any chance of wet weather football and Penrith should be easy money for the punters.

It's not going to be easy.

Penrith will have to play well. Can they win without Cleary.

I went back and re-watched the Cronulla trial and looked at O'Sullivan. As long as the team works as a unit, we can win.

I think we go well this year, maybe even go back-to-back but I think we lose tonight. Didn’t like how we looked in that last trial and not having Nathan is massive against another very good side.

42-12 our way. having almost the whole crew back i'm confident sos will play well. I do have my concerns on kiks out wide however as he looked lazy in the trials.
