All afl games are on fox. On Sunday we had 361k Fox viewers across 2 games and they had 342k across 3 games.
Newcastle were the FTA team, So the Regionals will push the 2 closer together.

they sell as a metro package for the big advertisers. Its one of the reasons why seven pay a lot more than nine for the respective sports. Across metro yesterday AFL drew more than double and took 9th place, thats money in the bank for seven advertising and again one of the reasons they will pay big to try and keep afl out of tens hands. Friday night it drew double NRL's as well across metro and sat in 5th spot compared to NRL's 15th spot.Yep and in 2 of the 3 biggest markets. It runs on a secondary channel so adds very little in that aspect

Brisbanes rating for NRl dont come clos to Perth ad Adelaide combined for AFL and Melbourne's ratings always outperform Sydneys for NRL significantly. Our migration to Kayo/Fox has cost us in FTA and we have not realised any significant increase from Fox in the process. Would have been interesting to see what might have happened if we had kept the $185mill ch9 deal Smith did and had NRL FTA on a Saturday night. Nine might have held more market share and the overall deal might have ended up bigger in the long run.
They're still reaching 60-100k in those two markets, whilst at the same time reaching massively into the other 3 main markets. There's a reason Seven pay AFL $20-25mill cash a year more than Nine pay NRL.Yes but Sportsbet, KFC have different packages for the different codes, They aren't going to pay premium on ch 7 when they need to then pay another network to get the QLD/NSW market. Especially in the current economic climate. Both codes have this issue with FTA sponsors and Advertising

The big question remains why we arent able to leverage Fox payment better. We smash AFL on Fox/Kayo every week yet the payments difference does not reflect this domination of NRL subscribers v AFL subscribers. It remains one of life's mysteries!
Before you cream your pants the article actually says possibly below $473m and even with that the fumbleball nonces are going to have to weigh up exactly how many fans they are prepared to lose if they put most of the game behind a paywall, and also possibly scrap games being shown mandatorily in their home states as Ten /Paramount attempt to maximise the number to sign up. I don`t think fumbleball will risk it and Fox and Seven will know this.W
Wow opening ten bid is $473mill a year? I thought people were saying ten werent realistic bidders and afl wouldt even get $416 they got before lol
if nothing else it puts to bed that Ch10 was smoke and mirrors and not going to bid. Its going to create competitive tension and thats what brings big money as we saw in NZ. First bids are always lower than your willing to pay. If 7/Fox match $473mill it will take 10 over $500 to pry it away. AFL will go with tried and tested unless the $'s are worth the risk of a new partner. Its a shame no one else wants to buy the NRL rights. Which means they accept even less from the current rights holdersBefore you cream your pants the article actually says possibly below $473m and even with that the fumbleball nonces are going to have to weigh up exactly how many fans they are prepared to lose if they put most of the game behind a paywall, and also possibly scrap games being shown mandatorily in their home states as Ten /Paramount attempt to maximise the number to sign up. for 14th V 15thYesterday NRL couldn't even get in top 20 FTA shows by not cracking more than 242k metro viewers,
yeh that’s weird how they take different games and then aggregate them in the metrosfor 14th V 15th
yea big crisis
still watched by 700K all up
their 459K metro was for 3 different games shown in all markets so their figure is hugely misleading
not one of their games on its own yesterday would have outrated the rubbish game ch 9 covered in the NRL
the aflol is not the big deal it thinks it is
yes as we do every week on Fox, why we dont get a lot more money I dont know.so
we smashed em again
thats what we should be doing instead of playing at sht times like 6pm on a Friday, NRL is so dumbY

Right NOW the AFL get around $366m per year, right now. So the negotiations or the media players could think what are they (AFL) getting payed now, before they put together a bid which would then take a hard look at all figures including rating and subscriptions. So right now they getting $366. The problem for the AFL is the Australian parties know what they are paying right now in the 2022. But the bigger problem is they KNOW what they are paying for the years 2023-2024. Using deductive reasoning, like we (Foxtel payed $230m) so other parties payed $243m which is a quarter of a billion for a year, how likely is that, thus they can call B/S on the $473 figure by deductive reasoning. They will pay UNDERS for the next 2025 contract .Before you cream your pants the article actually says possibly below $473m and even with that the fumbleball nonces are going to have to weigh up exactly how many fans they are prepared to lose if they put most of the game behind a paywall, and also possibly scrap games being shown mandatorily in their home states as Ten /Paramount attempt to maximise the number to sign up. Haha, wishful thinking. The last deal was $416mill a year, it won’t be less than that and with the conformation that there are two bidders it could be substantially more depending on how critical the bidders see it as being to their futures business. For example could Kayo/fox sports survive if it lost 500k plus subscribers?Right NOW the AFL get around $366m per year, right now. My guess for the Paramount bid was in the low $3 Three Hundreds... "AFL very disappointed" I bet they were. Paramount may go up to $360+ which what they the AFL are getting NOW
