i genuinely can’t fathom someone who has grown up with rugby league liking afl.

people who grew up in afl states I get it they were brainwashed as a kid

but if you grew up in nsw or qld and prefer afl over league you are some kind of stupid

They have been marketing afl for 30 years in Sydney and Brisbane. It’s still a minor sport

they’ve spent hundreds of millions on Auskick and still their junior participation is poor

a famous father in league was saying his son was counted as an afl junior, much to his amusement

he was talking about his son Nathan Cleary who despite being an afl junior somehow did ok in our game

I tried watching the last 6 minutes of the afl last night at the pub before they put on the football. Omg it’s a terrible sport I managed three minutes tops

the afl can spend a billion marketing their sport. The problem is they are marketing afl against rugby league.

so yeh no chance
Like I keep telling the pretend RL fans in here who trott out the narrative that this extra money they have spells the end of RL or something
Please to god they piss most of it up the wall like they have over the last 40 years chasing their egotistical dream of all little boys & girls all over Australia donning tank tops & fumbling bumbling & missing one day soon
Knobs in here calling Vlandys Narcissistic is funny , he's a rank amateur compared to the derps & dropsies as they simply can't help themselves with their delusional dream of national dominance

something about a dead horse

The difference between afl and rugby league is rugby league isn’t arrogant enough to think it can take over from fumble ball in their states

afl is wasting all its financial strength trying to do that on our turf

when you have a competitor which has more cash and better media than you, the best way to drain them of money is for them to fight on your turf

a Perth nrl team will do nothing against afl. But the dolphins sure will

The Players union want a 47% of revenue

$11m cap
$5m extra to each club
$30m a year NRLW
$6m for re education of retiring players

Has the revenue at around $600m in that case, yet dickheads here complain
Nrl clubs currently receive more than afl clubs do from their respective governing bodies

plus the arlc made a surplus of 45 whilst having covid restricted crowds for origin and finals and 30 million in covid relocation costs

yet somehow Gillion is held up as a good boss

I would argue that we don’t have confidence of fumbleball when we most definitely should, considering our product is much better.

Also it is not a game of risk. We are both selling products that’s it. You have to ask yourself: why have you got this financial strength relative to ours?

If one is selling a product nationwide and one isn’t, the former is obviously going to make more money.

That just means we are spending less on things that we should be spending more on (like grassroots)

There is no point in having a profit if you are not making any investments

ive learnt that no matter how sht your product if you spend enough promoting it then there will always be a large chunk of the public stupid enough to buy it.

V’landys is being hammered by club bosses about everything from the AFL’s mammoth $4.5 billion broadcast deal to the state government’s change of heart on stadium funding, and even his explanation for delaying Taylan May’s two-game ban to next year, saying it was “for the fans”.

I think Weidler does a pretty good job there summing up Vlandys latest f**k ups!

Vlandys: For the next five years we have proposed a 140% increase in funding to clubs as compared to 2019.

Hmmmm, I don’t think Pete knows what he’s saying here, a 140% increase would be an extra $18.2mill a year per club on top of the $13mill lol
presuming he actually means a 40% increase that’s still an extra $5.2 mill each compared to 2019. Where exactly is this $83.2mill plus $18.2mill for dolphins ie $101.4million a year coming from??
not sure pistol Pete is very good with maths lol

Fancy accounting and positive with head lines can only do so much. The NRL players, Clubs etc have seen the books and seen $600m of revenue, adjusted their request accordingly.

That is all that matters

An investment has a return

spending a billion dollars to try and get fans isn’t an investment.

but hey afl is wasting all their resources so good luck to them with the vanity projects

whereas vlandys is building a sport with solid finances

that is overall revenue lol.
2019 Overall revenue was $552mill. With the extra little bit from tv and increased gambling revenue and other bits a total revenue of $600mill sounds right.

afls will sit at around $825- $850mill next year depending on how much of the $473mill media component is contra.

$600mill overall revenue maybe.
Vlandys figures in that article are all over the place and none of them correct lol. He’s sure coming across as the financial whizz kid wb is painting him to be :)

The figure is what RLPA wants for their players, Based on the NRL figures.
