Do the Dragons do any work in the area?

Nah. We get a 'try NRL day' each year which usually has an NRLW player come down. I'm at the southern end of shoalhaven(milton/ulladulla) though so not sure if that changes the closer you get to Wollongong. Don't get me wrong, the local league do a great job running the comp. Registration with kit only costs $125, which is way better than what people pay in Sydney. With the active kids voucher I'm only out a pair of boots and $25. But it would be great if they got more money, especially for grounds. A lot of games were forfeited or hosted at our field this year because of the heavy rain and a lack of decent drainage on home grounds.

Victoria run u18's and u20's teams in the NSWRL competition, So the link is there. Not that you see the media report on it

I admit I am ignorant on the Victorian junior comp. But a quick glance at the website suggests there are 8 u10s teams. There are 5 u10 AFL teams in the Shoalhaven. The difference being only 3 teams between a major city and a regional area doesn't fill me with confidence.

That will require rationalisation of Sydney. Development requires money that's currently squandered on the NRL clubs from Sydney. All of our game's problems come back to our administration caring more about preserving the NSWRL than the health of the sport. Good businesses don't get sentimental about their history and make changes based on what's needed to survive.
If we can`t learn from what has happened to the game in England with clubs desperately fighting to protect their own little dungheap at the expense of the greater good of the game then there is no hope. Absolutely no hope.

40 years ago it was considered by most fans north of the murray to be a sport for unco little white twerps who can't catch or kick straight
a spectacle that looks like monkeys fighting over the last banana

nothing has changed ...

I agree. Their sport is a f****** turd. But you have more faith in people than I do. You only have to look at the things that are popular now to see that all you need is good marketing to convince people to follow something

Play RL has 15 senior clubs in Group
7.
The Shoalhaven AFL website says there is 5

So that isn't translating across to seniors

Victoria having Storm teams in NSWRL comp against other NRL clubs is good for the game

i genuinely can’t fathom someone who has grown up with rugby league liking afl.

people who grew up in afl states I get it they were brainwashed as a kid

but if you grew up in nsw or qld and prefer afl over league you are some kind of stupid

They have been marketing afl for 30 years in Sydney and Brisbane. It’s still a minor sport

they’ve spent hundreds of millions on Auskick and still their junior participation is poor

a famous father in league was saying his son was counted as an afl junior, much to his amusement

he was talking about his son Nathan Cleary who despite being an afl junior somehow did ok in our game

I tried watching the last 6 minutes of the afl last night at the pub before they put on the football. Omg it’s a terrible sport I managed three minutes tops

the afl can spend a billion marketing their sport. The problem is they are marketing afl against rugby league.

so yeh no chance

Even weedler can work out all the stuff vlandys has done and weedler is a dope

also some talk about future nrl tv deals

He is very thin skinned and narcissistic which his response has all the hallmarks of - trying to paint himself as a white knight and that nobody has the right to attack him. Give me a break.

His insistence that we are going to do a broadcast deal again by 2025 worries me. It is likely that it is a re-negotiation of the current deal, probably on 18 sides, rather than an open tender of a new broadcast deal - has he not learnt from his recent mistake?

It will probably play out like this: We will renegotiate an increase which would be a lot less than what we could get on open tender and lock us in until I don’t know, let’s say 2031. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Why wouldn’t you just wait until the end of this current deal and put the promise of a 9th game on open tender?

You are not telling me anything I don’t know. It is a garbage sport. However, as I said, marketing is important. We don’t market our game well and they do.

The other point I would add, if their sport is so crap and our sport is so much better as a product why don’t we have the courage of our convictions and put in sides in WA and SA. To argue that we shouldn’t try and carve out a niche in big metro areas, makes no sense either from a commercial sense or from a logical sense.

The Players union want a 47% of revenue

$11m cap
$5m extra to each club
$30m a year NRLW
$6m for re education of retiring players

Has the revenue at around $600m in that case, yet dickheads here complain
