There was one where PVL himself said the deal is over $400m cash, Given it was offically 'over' $400m. Adding contra still falls in that category

As for the $550m cash that isn't logical

Ch7 is about $170m that would include contra. That leaves Fox playing $400m cash. No way they have that money on top of the other sports they pay for
No there wasn’t! There was no such quote from him. The DEAL is $402mill of which
$130mill ch9 ($115mill cash) confirmed
$32 mill sky cash and contra confirmed
$240mill fox cash and contra the remaining

Given we know last tv deal contra was $24mill a year and nine ar upping it $5mill it’s fair to assume contra will be at least $30mill of the $402 mill.

belive it or don’t believe it, up to you but that’s what it will be barring renegotiations taking place during the next 5 years.

So let’s spitball some numbers for discussion

1. Ninth game 30 to 50 million from Australia. If nz up to 70 million

2. Monday night football 10 to 15 million ?

3. End of season international 10 million ?

4. Nrlw 5 to 10 million

cash only

the development of international rugby league is our next big growth platform. Arguably we’ve surpassed union in Tonga Samoa and Fiji. We own png

this is why international clubs should be prioritised and why I would put nz2 ahead of Perth

and why png is a must

thats some spitballing lol,
internationals will be mostly included as they are already for mid season tests, nrlw how many years until they have a full comp?
$70mill for a NZ team? kids stay off the drugs or you'll end up like Wb!
There will be no Monday night football again

Back in the real world best we can hope for is club 18 and a $20-30mill increase UNLESS it runs full course and we go out to competitive tender in 2025 and get interested parties to bid against each other. then we should be aiming for $500-550mill based on what AFL has just achieved.

Introducing a professional second division is the only way of generating more money between now and 2028. It'll give the likes of Prime Video, Stan Sport and Paramount Plus an opportunity to generate content and put themselves in the running for the NRL rights in 2028.

I love LUs constant claim that a 2nd or third tier comp will just shit out money for the NRL.

Anyone care to run me through the great gamut of 2nd/3rd tier Australian sports that these streaming services will also be clamouring for?
Womens NRL would be one of the few options

Well if Aleague with its 25k viewers can sell for $40mil a year! We know Paramount + is desperate for local sports content. Its not beyond the realms of possibility that a RL comp that can draw 60k plus viewers a game wouldn't sell for the same is it? Problem would be production costs but NRL may be able to use this to test the water of producing its own content in years to come. with 10 games a week you could get a coupe on ABC for exposure and sell the other 8 to someone like Paramount+

By that logic the QCup and NSW comp must be worth at least $20M combined.

But yes it's completely bonkers to think that a 2nd or 3rd tier comp is worth tens of millions.

I guess if people wanted to watch them maybe, but people dont, which is kind of the point lol.
Its value will be in if attracts new viewers the NRL isnt. Given we are talking about a comp for new markets as well as established then is it likely to match for viewers for Aleague and NBL? And of so why wouldn't it be worth similar? I could see a 100k audience avg for a well run comp.
Not to mention this isnt mainly a money making exercise, its an investment in growing the game. You could probably do it for less money than the AFL's spending in NSW and Qlnd!

You think a 2nd tier comp can produced out of nowhere and rate more highly then any other sport in Australia bar the AFL and NRL?

You also think it will attract fans who AREN'T interested in the NRL but will be interested in this competition?

You're not living in any reality.

The NRL could produce it themselves, like the QRL does with their competitions.

I don't care if you're an AFL fan trolling a Rugby League site whose only qualification is running a website that steals ratings data from elsewhere
@The_Wookie ... ouch !
or an NRL fan blindly loyal to current management who can't handle criticism
@Wb1234 👍
or an NRL fan who shits on management at every turn because of some other petty grievance.
@Perth Red
and there really is nothing to talk about now until the NRL makes firm expansion plans.

Why do our deals routinely get beaten by AwFuL?

We rate better than them on Foxtel, so there's no reason we shouldn't be getting more than them from News Ltd for the PTV side of it.

I think it comes down to Murdoch hating our game and having a vendetta against us because he lost so much money on it in the 90s. Plus he's from the southern states, so he would be biased in favour of the other mob.

I’ll take that

I’ve had blind loyalty to every leader we’ve had since gallop

this one actually delivers

the only real criticism of vlandys I can make is he’s got a ugly melon

oh he’s not not afraid to fail and learns from his mistakes

but rugby league is in a golden era most of the sad twits following this sport are too jaded to realise it

the love fest for afl on this forum is sickening.

Not sure Monday night footy works, Super Sunday should be very popular though

Internationals are an instant fix as early as next year, Abdo has said they are in discussions for 4 tests in 5 weeks. 4 or 5 tests in this timezone will be decent money spinners.

I think you undersold NRLW.
10 teams
5 games a week
12 weeks
Same pay as Men for Origin, So that is too be added.
I think $20m atleast for that- $120m outlay hopefully builds up

Players want too much time off, Sides like Samoa need to get money in to start playing more games.

It was 4 games for Aust and NZ, There would be 4 games a weekend in total minimum

Well hopefully all players get the same amount to play these games

10k each would cost just over 1 million for four tests

Which is why I was against Mid season tests only put on to give the NRL content.

Tier 2 countries need to have profit share, Hosting tests is a possibly or being able to choose the venue atleast

lol. Not quite how Id put it. Ive never claimed to have qualifications. I tell people all the time that Im just a guy with ratings and finance data. As for stolen, well, thats nonsense. The ratings data is either in the public domain, supplied by broadcasters, journos or supplied to me by people I work with at TV_Blackbox and the collation and publishing is approved by Oztam.
