What's the thinking behind Pen v Mel at Accor ?

Surely Combank would have been a more obvious choice ?
Sydney teams get to nominate where they would like to play "home" games for weeks 2 and 3
Penrith chose Accor

I am not sure if the options are limited to Accor and Allianz

While Suncorp sells out in 25 seconds, Accor will sell out in 25 years time when either Eels or Dogs, tigers make the top 4.

IIRC, it winds up in week 3 being "home region" for finals with it limited to certain grounds, which for Sydney teams are Allianz or Accor.

As such Penrith would prefer Accor, as it it would mean less travel for its fans. Additionally, its where the Panthers played in week 3 last year anyway so it should not come as any surprise.

I really hope a fair amount of people make the effort and go to the women's finals on Sunday. If they both weren't an 8-10 hour drive from me, I'd definitely be going. Plus, members and anyone under 18 get to go free.

It is hard to get into without a side in it. Newcastle is a good choice they should pull a decent crowd.

Though having it clash with NSW Cup GF is dumb

Panthers' lack of a fanbase will be exposed on Friday for all to see!

If you can't catch a free train for 40 minutes are you a real fan?

Good test to see the Panthers fanbase.

In the same scenario, think Souths, Bulldogs, WT's, Dragons, Parra would push 45K plus.

Garbage. We have played 20 of those in Prelim finals and got 43k and 50k

Teams bring 20-25k with them for games like this

Well Brian Fletcher Penrith CEO wants neutral venues for prelims.

So let's play Penrith v Storm in Brisbane and Broncos v Warriors at Accor.
Yeah f**k that shit. As a Warriors fan I’m still 100% cool with it being at Suncorp. I’d even prefer home advantage for the grand final than it being at a neutral venue TBH provided the capacity was up to it.

Here's the crowd figures for Preliminary Finals held in Sydney + featuring one Sydney team in the 21st Century:
45,702 - Sharks vs Warriors at Accor Stadium (2002)
44,327 - Eels vs Cowboys at Accor Stadium (2005)
43,174 - Panthers vs Warriors at Accor Stadium (2003)
43,048 - Roosters vs Cowboys at Accor Stadium (2004)
40,901 - Dragons vs Storm at Accor Stadium (2006)
37,752 - Roosters vs Knights at the old Allianz Stadium (2013)
36,717 - Sharks vs Cowboys at the old Allianz Stadium (2016)
34,184 - Eels vs Broncos at Accor Stadium (2001)
33,727 - Roosters vs Knights at the old Allianz Stadium (2000)
32,611 - Sea Eagles vs Cowboys at the old Allianz Stadium (2007)
32,184 - Roosters vs Storm at the SCG (2019)
32,095 - Sea Eagles vs Warriors at the old Allianz Stadium (2008)
31,894 - Sea Eagles vs Broncos at the old Allianz Stadium (2011)
31,438 - Sharks vs Knights at the old Allianz Stadium (2001)
31,087 - Eels vs Broncos at Accor Stadium (2000)
29,511 - Bulldogs vs Broncos at the old Allianz Stadium (2006)
28,251 - Roosters vs Broncos at the old Allianz Stadium (2002)
28,108 - Roosters vs Cowboys at the old Allianz Stadium (2017)
27,570 - Sharks vs Storm at the old Allianz Stadium (2008)

That's an average of 34,962 for 19 games.

I think anything better than the average would be a good result. Anything less would be disappointing for a two-time reigning Premiership team.

And for what it's worth, the Daily Telegraph is suggesting that will be the crowd figure:
