This system is somehow even more screwy than the old one. Ponga had an awesome half year, and that's good enough. But no way he was the best player this year.

Most frudulant Dally M winner since they handed the award to the toofless wonder from LOL@Souffs Jack Wighton. Disgraceful

All seriousness the quickest and easiest formula in this kind of system is to be a stand out player in a very bad team. Doesnt seem like we're actually giving this award to the best player lol

Easiest way to fix it give everyone points..

It will stop the idiot judge looking for their favourite players so they don't miss out.

The fact that you’re so upset about it makes it so much better.

Have you seen who the judges have been in the past?

They're flat out picking 3 players to give points to. It's never going to happen.

Yeah I thought of that when I came up with the suggestion 😂

We can all dream though

you only need to look at the top 10 to see why Johnson didn't win

AFB took votes off him, They can never fix the flaw of having the star player in an average team win it

I dont know how to fix it tbh... maybe that would to it. But i dont know.
All these points systems are flawed. I mean the panthers are probably going to three-peat and the best player in the game hasnt won award but Wighton, Hynes and Ponga have on objectively shitty teams
Seems like not a great way to do things lol

But it is what it is. Congrats to Ponga. He's a great player to watch when he's on and boy was he on in the last half of the year

Edwards, Cleary, Yeo all ended up in the top ten with 42 points each and none of them make the team of the year. This shows how the system is broken!
To win the medal you need to be a star in a mediocre team, and be a media pet!

Are we better off giving every NRL coach a vote and you can't pick a player on your side?

PENRITH are really butthurt too. Don’t worry about it you have bigger fish to fry.

Honestly thought Johnson deserved it and then maybe Haas. Ponga would’ve been next in line though so I don’t get all the outrage. Watch his highlights and look at his stats. His 2nd half of the year was as good as any player in recent memory.

Yeo has missed maybe 10 tackles this year. Carrigan is good but he's no Yeo

Johnson was great from start to finish and Ponga wins it, geez at one point of the season Newcastle weren’t going so great Adam O’Brian was close to being sacked anyway congratulations Ponga

Its kind of silly and rudimentary
But i like the way the american sports do it, which is more or less to pick best player of the top 2-3 teams and a broad selection of people who cover the game on a professional level decide who is the best

This points system favours exceptional players who are in OK but actually kind of bad teams. 3 of the last 4 winners have been on... frankly, not contending teams? Realitiy on reality's terms, under this system Ponga, Hynes and Wighton are worthy winners.. Any one think they're the best players in the game on those years?
I dont.

Use whatever points allocation system, then scale based on team finishing position.

Players in top 4 teams retain full points value.

Players in teams finishing 5-8 get their tally scaled back 5%

Players in teams finishing 9-12 get their tally scaled back 10%

Players in teams finishing 13-16 get their tally scaled back 15%

Players in teams finishing 17+ get their tally scaled back 95% f**k any of those pricks getting a sniff at winning the best player award.

Yeah I'm a pretty big NBA fan and they generally get it right.

The last legitimate Dally M "winner" was Turbo that year I guess

What the F just happened? I turned it off after Rd 23 when Johnson had a 10 point lead and then find out he lost :D

If the award is to go to the best player they need to do an American style MVP voted by players and selected press

Under the current system Cleary will never win and that's a crime.
