What's that got to do with anything? They were based in Australia, they already had no hopes of finals, they didn't have a full off season to reconnect with the local community.

Playing week 1 in Auckland, new season, fresh start, a healthy dose of false hope should have been a no brainer compared to taking it to Wellington.

The fact they played a handful of games in NZ this season is irrelevant to that.

Exactly. The way some people carry on with ground scheduling for the NRL, you'd think that no one else uses any of the stadiums bar those NRL clubs and that they have first dibs on all possible dates during the period of the season until the NRL finalises its draw. We rarely have access to that information as not grounds have an events calendar for the ground available on the internet.
