Every year i say the shame shit, NQ should be playing 1 home game in the first 5 weeks. 2 away, 1 home, 2 away. Wet season and the weather in general is rubbish that time of year, plus you wanna try and get us to play a lot of home games during the WC so as to free up the other venues.

Watch us have 4 home games instead over the first 5 weeks....... I swear you could get a few fans of each club in a room and come up with a better f**king draw than what these muppets put out every year.

lol.

yeah it's definitely not about allowing a minority that generally feels excluded or uncomfortable about some things, including sports, to feel that they're included.

Nobody was coerced (the players stood down, and returned the following week). Nobody was silenced (they made their views very clear). Nobody participated without protest.

No dangerous precedent was set.
So what's going to happen when players from all clubs stand down for the round? It's going to be a huge embarrassment for the NRL. This shit needs to stay out of all sports. It's f**king shameful for all involved.

Yep. All clubs have a big islander presence so all have the same issue

The only people it should be embarrassing for are the bigots who believe lgbtqi people should not be considered equal

not gunna lie its a pretty juicy round one with some enticing match ups based on how things ended up in 2022
should get 160K on its ear .... but
seriously the NRL & everyone else shouldn't be puzzled as to why there is a lot of conflict with the RLPA because this round is potentially very dangerous with games played in daytime in what could be horrendous heat

why are the Raiders going to Nth Qld & playing at 4.30pm in early March ?
Brookvale at 3pm ??... seriously ?
Brisbane at 3pm ?

Its not due to ground availability , I checked .
so why not the same games , just some day & venue changes

Thurs Penrith V Brisbane
Fri 6pm Raiders V Cowboys
Fri 8pm Dolphins V Roosters
Sat 3pm Warriors V Knights
Sat 5.30 Parra V Storm
Sat 7.30 Sharks V Souths
Sun 4.00 Manly V Bulldogs
Sun 6.15 Tigers V Titans

theres no good reason to be putting players health at risk with crazy kick of times & venues in Early March

The Friday night 8pm slot will work better for the Panthers match in getting a crowd, and it rates better more often than not on Friday nights than Thursday too. Moving that game is not a good move. The Friday 8pm timeslot is the number 1 game of the round when it is first formulated. I suspect the Panthers would preger the number 1 time slot for the round than "opening the season" on Thursday, especially if people won't attend due to work the next day and/or go back to Panthers afterwards. Premier are rarely the opening game of the round since the NRL have had Thursday night games.

Also the Dolphins are "new" but putting its game against the Roosters in the no. 1 time slot of the round, in a game many predict will be relatively one sided is not wise in my book. That's why I suspect why the NRL put it on the Saturday afternoon slot as it will generate some interest with it being a new team, and a Qld side to boot. Moving Manly v Canterbury to 4pm on the Sunday would see a hit to TV ratings in Qld as a lot of Qlders probably would not watch, and nor would a number of NSW fans. Manly don't always rate highly on FTA TV.

Also without knowing the remainder of the draw, you can't just move the Raider v Cowboys match to Canberra if they are only playing each other once this season as it might be (relatively speaking) "turn" for the Cowboys to host the match.

The big question though is, will Channel 9 show the game live? I only ask as on Sunday 5 March 2023 will se daylight saving still applying in NSW, Vic and the ACT, so I wonder if the "4.05 pm" is AEDT or AEST? Cause if its AEST, that means it will beat 3.05 pm outside of Qld on the rest of the east coast.
If it's 4.05pm AEST then it'll be shown at 5.05pm AEDT.

The players who boycotted the game were unfairly denigrated by the media for refusing to be bullied into supporting this pointless virtue signalling exercise.

The community you speak of is no longer marginalised. They have the same legal rights as everyone else.

I doubt I'm the only one who believes the NRL should stop trying to mix politics and sport together. When I watch football I don't want to hear about anything political. All of the different socks and jerseys the players wear devalue their actual home and away jerseys.

Sexuality is not political.

Six rounds impacted by Origin will account for 30 of the 51 byes throughout 2023 - the three pre-Origin rounds will have five games, seven byes; the three post-Origin rounds will feature seven games, three byes.

No Friday 6pm games during those six rounds.

Rounds immediately prior to State of Origin matches
  • Thursday night 7:50pm
  • Friday night 7:55pm
  • Saturday afternoon 5:30pm
  • Saturday night 7:35pm
  • Sunday 4:05pm
Rounds immediately after State of Origin matches
  • Friday night 7:55pm
  • Saturday 3:00pm
  • Saturday 5.30pm
  • Saturday 7.30pm
  • Sunday 2:00pm
  • Sunday 4:05pm
  • Sunday 6:15pm
All other Rounds will feature eight games with one bye.

Penrith were drawing 16 & 17K in pouring rain on Thursday nights this year so I don;t think the crowd will be an issue on the thursday night with them as back to back premiers , plus they opened the season as defending premiers V Manly on the Thursday this year.

being worried about one sided contests & whether people in QLD will watch a game at 3pm on a Sunday or if teams are only playing each other once , aren't good enough reasons for mine to risk players health playing in potentially dangerous conditions , we need to limit the affects of the heat as much as possible & this first round looks like the NRL just doesn't care...Like I said , this is what the RLPA bang on about & while sometimes they're just being greedy with their silly demands , but sometimes they are absolutely right !

You are (along with me) not working with full knowledge of how the matchups and time slots were formulated. We do not know how much input various groups had, from the TV broadcasters to the clubs themselves for that matter. The NRL may control over the draw, but experience has shown the TV broadcasters do have a big input, and some clubs have had request for when they would prefer home games scheduled (e.g. the cowboys on Saturday afternoons/nights).

The constant from fans seems to be

Why don't Storm start at home with no AFL and the Cowboys with Home games early, There has to be a reason why this happens

The Storm are away in Round 1 because Super Rugby booked AAMI Park out for a Magic Round for the entire weekend.
