Four teams remain in the race for the 2023 Auswide Bank Mal Meninga Cup title.

The finals action will kick off this weekend, with Redcliffe Dolphins and Wynnum Manly Seagulls meeting in semi-final one, while Ipswich Jets and Townsville Blackhawks will face off in semi-final two.

Both games will be played at North Ipswich Reserve, with the two winners advancing to the grand final on Sunday, April 23.

Competitive, physical, hard-working, imposing, strong, dangerous, fast, and in your face – this is what every coach wants to see from their forward pack.

And throughout season 2023 of the Auswide Bank Mal Meninga Cup, this is exactly what the Redcliffe Dolphins and Wynnum Manly Seagulls engine rooms have delivered.

The two clubs will meet in this Saturday’s first semi-final and the stage is set for an explosive showdown, with both teams boasting some of the best forwards in the southeast corner.

A hot day in Ipswich has seen Redcliffe blow away the Wynnum Manly Seagulls and swim into the final like a pod of angry mean Dolphins.

Fans at North Ipswich Reserve got their money's worth with two games in one semi-final.

The Dolphins rode it out until the end and a 56-18 win that was built on waiting for your chance.

The Dolphins second half attacking masterclass inspired the Townsville Blackhawks first half with the Blackhawks steamrolling the Jets with big forwards streaming through the middle.

The Blackhawks won through to another Auswide Bank Mal Meninga Cup final, with next week being their 10th final appearance since 2009.

Townsville will be trying to right the wrongs of the last two finals losses in 2021 and 2022.

The game was all but over at half time with the Townsville Blackhawks ahead 20-6 and having one eye on the Redcliffe Dolphins next week.

Ipswich staged a great fighting finals comeback to score three tries in nine minutes to put some scare into the Blackhawks but the first half was haunting the Jets who weren’t able to peg the lead back.

The stage is set for a blockbuster grand final showdown between the Dolphins and Townsville Blackhawks, with the two teams to meet at Totally Workwear Stadium from 1pm on Sunday.

For the Blackhawks, they are playing in their third straight premiership decider and won their last title in 2016.

On the other side of the paddock however, it has been 10 years since the Dolphins last found premiership success in the under 18s competition – with no grand final appearances in that time – and for skipper Michael Waqa, he knows what a win could do, not just for his team, but the future generations at Redcliffe.

Elijah-Shane Tapau is where he is today because of his support base.

The Townsville Blackhawks backrower will take to the field in this Sunday’s Auswide Bank Mal Meninga Cup grand final, ready to battle it out with a monster Redcliffe Dolphins pack for the 2023 premiership.

Tapau - who was also this week voted the 2023 best Auswide Bank ‘player to bank on’ – is determined not to get too far ahead of himself before the decider at Totally Workwear Stadium.

The Auswide Bank Mal Meninga Cup final edition has been written for 2023 and for the Redcliffe Dolphins, it will be a retold narrative.

For the Townville Blackhawks it’s another missed chance.

The Dolphins stormed to a 36-18 victory over the Blackhawks at Totally Workwear Stadium in Brisbane on Sunday, claiming their first under 18s premiership trophy in 10 years.
