The competition kicks off next Saturday (18 February) with three U18 matches to look forward to.

 

[Dolphins2023]

After the completion of trial matches, the following teams are looking strong ahead of the start of the U18 Mal Meninga Cup season:

The Tweed Seagulls won all three of their trial matches with wins over Pool C counterparts Souths Logan (16-8) and Burleigh (18-16). They also picked up a gritty 12-0 win over the Northern Rivers Titans from NSW's U18 Laurie Daley Cup. After a mid-table finish last year, Tweed could be in for a big one in 2023.

The Souths Logan Magpies also had strong results in their trial matches, defeating Burleigh (18-14) and Ipswich (16-12). Their one loss came against Tweed (16-8). Last year's grand finalists have lost some key playmakers in Blake Mozer and Jye Gray, but will still have a strong squad for the 2023 season.

The Brisbane Tigers had mixed results this preseason with convincing wins over Redcliffe (16-8) and Wynnum (26-16). However, they suffered a heavy 46-6 defeat to Pool C competitors Burleigh in their final match. They will be looking to improve on their 14th place finish from last year.

In Pool B, the Western Clydesdales are looking strong this year. They defeated their Wide Bay rivals 32-12 and managed to claim a 20-all draw against Redcliffe. The Clydesdales will be looking to outmuscle Pool B powerhouses in the Sunshine Coast Falcons and Ipswich Jets on their way to the finals this year.

Whilst in Pool A, the Mackay Cutters managed a 20-16 win against the CQ Capras this week. But expect the usual suspects Townsville Blackhawks to be strong again up north.
