The whole points system is stupid - a desire to have all teams move towards a low but even standard rather than ask lower teams to improve their standard.I did hear a story regarding the team lists and that it has been relaxed for RM and SS because of the uncertainty of who is actually playing until the Friday or even the weekend, due to players coming down/across. As this is often another club that is sending players the SS and RM teams really don't know who is playing until late.
I agree its not ideal as I to like to see who is playing etc.
The NSW RL have more problems with these comps than team lists though. The Point system esp for SS is completely messed up. Players who are SS level players are being ruled out due to high points because the allocation of points to competitions is basically stupid
However, the NSWRL brought out a new points system a few years ago, that applies to all competitions in the State except NSW Cup and Flegg. The number of points allowable depends on the level of the competition. The Newcastle District has great transparency so every year they make public the points of every player in their top grades. Surprisingly, it shows that Maitland (equal with Wyong) has the lowest points in the competition, even though they have lost only 3 games in 3 seasons. All of the other clubs are between 200 and 300 points.
Players like Brock Lamb, Sam Anderson, Matt Soper Lawler, Jayden Butterfield and Gary Anderson are ZERO points
James Bradley, Daniel Langbridge, Alex Langbridge, Pat Matautia, Chad O'Donnell and James Taylor are all 4 points. The biggest factor in this system is to stop one club bleeding other clubs of their best players, by allocating 25 points.
So 35 of Maitland's 93 points is accounted for by one transfer (Jade Taylor) and 10 points for Reid Alchin, when not picked for NSW Cup. Take these 2 guys out, and the best team in NSW outside NSW Cup would be allowed to take the field in Sydney Shield.
