Illawarra Cup Round 1 confirmed (times TBC)

Sat 22 April
De La Salle v Thirroul @ Capt. Cook
Wests v Dapto @ Sid Parrish
Corrimal v Collegians @ Ziems

(ping @Tigers1986)
So without DLS Caringbah, Illawarra comp would be down to five teams.

The lower teams have made a few signings - Dapto, who were 6th last year, have signed Brad Takairangi, Pita Godinet and Aaron Gray, while wooden spooners, Corrimal, have signed Jarrod Mullen.

Semi finalists, DLS Caringbah, have signed Jack A Williams (Parramatta), Tyla Tamou (Newtown), Eli Levido & Jackson Stewart (Glebe) and Evander Swann (Cronulla Caringbah). Stewart and Tamou played in DLS' last A Grade premiership in 2020 and Williams is also a DLS junior. They have also retained Andrew Faddy and Jaz Flavell. In addition, they get all the Newtown guys that have been sitting out the first 6 rounds.

Glebe 22 Ryde Eastwood 18
Mounties 44 Silktails 18

Ryde Eastwood had its first loss. On the positive side, after starting the season at The Entrance, Zac Mackay has moved to the Hawks. Years ago, Mackay scored 38 points in a Flegg game for Penrith and it took 12 minutes to post his first try for his new club, when running out of space, he dived around the corner post to score.

Mackay's teammate at Windsor in 2021, Tyler Cassell, has been doing the goalkicking for Ryde Eastwood, and had 15 out 16 in the first 3 games but today he could only land 1 from 4. Fullback, Curtis Wilson put the kickoff out on the full twice, the nameless number 3 put the ball on the ground twice with the tryline open. The Hawks conceded a million penalties and have a few players on report, with Suli Ruka possibly facing a long suspension, so a bad day all round.

On the flip side, Mounties had their first win of the season, running up a substantial score against the Fijians, who after losing 5 players to Ipswich Jets and placing an age limit of 23 on the team, are struggling. Mounties backrower, Kenny Soumpholphakdy, deserves a huge winning bonus, as according to the system, he scored a try in the 374th minute. In SS, Tom Menzies scored 3 tries for Mounties but finished on the losing team.

Kenny S was so determined to avoid the nudie run that he stayed out on the field until he scored a try

The SS RE v Glebe game always looked like RE were going to win, they were rolling Glebe through the middle. I was a little disappointed in Glebe but maybe thats a result of not training all together much
The Massey RE v Glebe game was messy. Zac Mackay's put down was quite spectacular, although he did go out (watched the hudl footage this morning).

As a fan of RMC and SS I would like to thank League Unlimited and all those other contributors, for providing information on the games and players. Without this, we would be left with nothing but incomplete team lists and scores. The NSWRL should be ashamed of their efforts in not supporting what is the 3rd tier of men's competition.

I did hear a story regarding the team lists and that it has been relaxed for RM and SS because of the uncertainty of who is actually playing until the Friday or even the weekend, due to players coming down/across. As this is often another club that is sending players the SS and RM teams really don't know who is playing until late.
I agree its not ideal as I to like to see who is playing etc.
The NSW RL have more problems with these comps than team lists though. The Point system esp for SS is completely messed up. Players who are SS level players are being ruled out due to high points because the allocation of points to competitions is basically stupid

It does my head in that after several seasons they still haven't fixed the scoring on the Play Rugby League website. How hard is it? Glebe's winning try 5 minutes from full time against RE Hawks is listed as the first try of the match.

DLS Caringbah played a Mojo game before an NRL game. There must be a possibility that the Sharks NRL were the "ground managers" for this game because it is the only instance I have ever seen were the correct times for tries were inserted in play rugby league. So at least one human involved in the game can convert the remaining time in the half as shown on the clock to calculate the time elapsed.
