The crux of the issue is that this debate is utterly stupid. The poor bugger can only post data that exists or can be reasonable estimated. In all my years, and there have been a lot, I’ve never seen a more ridiculous discussion. It’s embarrassing being an NRL fan reading this drivel.

I don't think it is in regards to Wookie alone. He would take hits for the drivel the main stream media dishes out.

Perfect example, I saw a headline stating 600k gap in viewers between the relevant GF's

That is misleading because NZ ratings are N/A. I am sure Fox Sports or whoever posted that is copping the same shit

The crux of the issue is people wanting data that simply does not exist and every goddamn year apparently needs to be restated, even though the source of the data is published at the same time. We've known about the lack of NZ data for eight years and every year people here carry on like its a deliberate policy on my part to exclude them.

see my reply above. Fox Sports tweeting and posting stories like that has a flow on to websites like yours

Probably. For years the news reporting has been an issue as its metro focussed - and thats because for the "news" most of the data that is relevant is the first release metro data (the 600k is the gap for metro audience). While I have the luxury of updating later in the day or several days later when the BVOD audience comes out, the news cycle has moved on.

Take for instance NRLW Grand FInal FoxBVOD...this wont be out until next week as the game was on sunday.

Not really. I dont get data from media articles unless it cant be obtained from oztam/VOZ, which is rare in Australia now that BVOD is covered by OZTAM. (typically womens sport aggregates and averages have to be obtained from media and officials due to low numbers). Media reporting is sometimes weird - both News and Nine media conflated the AFLs ratings with reach and bvod averages, and as you said Fox were laser focussed on the metro ratings.

On the other hand, thanks to media reporting we know that the 700k sky reported doesnt include their sports streaming service.

Using finals series bvod ratio and extrapolating that across the regular season.

Also the last 2 and a bit rounds of the season.

Using bvod ratio over the heavily effected Womens Football World Cup ratings period and extrapolating it for the entire season.

The new BVOD system started the same day as the Womens world cup final. (20/8) This literally affected 2 NRL matches and 3 AFL matches on the same day. We had 16 other NRL matches worth of data (double what we had under the old system) between this and the finals beginning.

If you want to know what made up numbers look like, look no further than these posts from the Wookie.

Im glad you had no issues before this with the estimates being based of the first f**king round worth of data and literally nothing else.

I mean not to mention that using the same methodology last year ended up pretty much bang on the AFL and NRL announced aggregates for the year 2022.

I am not saying you report it, just people see the headline with no breakdown so take task with the broken down post

People always see the headline and stop. Happens with ratings, participation, finances - details often supplied but never read

The other reality is AFL is more of an Aussie game. The NRL is very multicultural, this will favour the NRL big time in the future. Across most markets we have growth available - NZ, Pacific/PNG, QLD, WA, SA

From a GF perspective, we are on par probably or it will start favouring us. However the real race is noted above where we are 30m ahead not including other ratings. We also have an international game that is highly competitive, parochial and will be worth $$$$$$.

Soccer won’t be able to match emotions of the pacific islands, nz and Australia games on home soil in the future. it might not get the country going like the momentum of a home World Cup, but it will pull the Tongan, Samoan, Fiji, PNG, Nz & Australian populations in. Ratings will only increase and the nrl should do a year to year deal.
The NRL is ahead with 2 fewer Australian teams and 1 fewer game each round. Expansion is going to happen. It makes you wonder what it will be like with 10 games, 7-8 of which could be in non-overlapping primetime across Thursday to Monday. If current management stays for quite some, I suspect we indeed will see a 20 team comp within 15 years. Perth and a second New Zealand side are likely to be 2 of the 3 new teams. Those are next big media markets to tap. A second New Zealand side is only going to boost the interest of internationals even further. Like I've said before - Kangaroos vs Kiwis has been far more competitive than the Bledisloe for the past 20 years. With each year Samoa & Tonga are coming closer to the Top 3. The rugby league season is becoming a behemoth that runs content from February to October/November.

So pleased the message is getting out that traditional comparisons are excluding a market of 5 million people or close to 25 percent of our footprint

to avoid odious comparisons the following disclaimers need to be made

1. We have no idea what the ratings are in nz and hence can’t say in any meaningful way that the grand final or any finals involving the warriors didn’t beat the corresponding afl game

or better yet

2. Nz has a population of 5 million which is being conveniently excluded. Take out the similar population base from afl in Australia and compare like for like. Roughly speaking take out all the ratings for qld and Perth

with the extra games on fta the ratings in nz will have more than doubled this year

If the data is incomplete for NRL then I don't see how it can be posted as complete for comparison to AFL, That seems to be the crux of the issue atleast on here
Imo it’s deliberately wilful by hiding behind the claim “in Australia”

Here’s a link which the fumbler media have picked up and quoting as fact

because he can’t find the data he presents it in a way where the data is zero

NRL TV penetration 174 Million + NZ
AFL TV penetration 143 Million

NRL Attendance 4 Million
AFL Attendance 8 Million

adding together for what I like to call Double Penetration
NRL 178 Million + NZ TV
AFL 151 Million

Therefore NRL has double penetrated AFL
It’s almost like you didn’t realise AFL have multiple games every week that overlap or are played at the same time.

Social media penetration :) Bigfooty would have to be 20 times larger than League Unlimited, is League Unlimited the biggest RL forum?

I've emailed Sky NZ and asked them if they can provide me and the Rugby League universe what the accurate ratings for the 23 season was and the finals series, they said they'll get in touch with the department that deals with it, and get back to me. Hmmmmm will see...

Wowwwwwwwww....... so a game played in 5 states compare to three states they beat us by how much? 200k? Still fkn very embarrassing for them, I thought every Aussie was a flog fan, but they're not. And yes afl is going to take over Queensland....maybe in a million years hahaha

Flogball fans

rugby league is only played on the east coast of Australia

can’t blame them for wanting to ignore the nz tv ratings

doesn’t fit the narrative
