Never understood this logic. Are you suggesting instead of watching nz v Samoa or Tonga v fiji and men’s and women’s origin rugby league fans are instead likely to turn on collingwood v st kilda and suddenly find afl appealing? It’s a very bizarre argument!
You tell me. I've yet to understand why a single person would watch the fumbling. Unless it's on a comedy channel.

Fact is, the SL war left the way open for AFL in Sydney and Brisbane. Shutting down the NRL every year for several weeks risks ceding more media ground.

From what I can recall of recent internationals, they didn't rate as well on Fox as NRL games in the same timeslot. Stand to be corrected on that.

Where's the evidence the bulk of NRL fans will follow internationals as keenly as club fixtures? Risky business putting the comp in hibernation every year. Leaves openings for rival sports.

Tests in Oct/Nov are an end-of-year bonus. Plus, generally better weather for games played in NZ.
It’s not about replacing tests with club games

it’s providing more content and also better quality content

People in Brisbane and Sydney have had 30 years to become afl fans they’ve had saturation coverage

we’ve had mid season tests before and they rated on par or better than an nrl game

they are going to play them end of season anyway so it’s basically the same amount of games times differently

I don't know how people can sit for freaking hours watching someone hitting a ball. I'd rather watch grass grow

imagine a top non aussie player being hurt/ season ending injury in a meaningless mid year international " friendly"

Brown for Parra
Tapine for Canb
Taumalolo for the Cowboys

the uproar would be through the roof

end of the year for these games , there is no other place for them.

Imagine a star Ike Nathan Cleary being ruled out for seven weeks due to the workload on his body from backing up for his club after origin
