"That's one of Australia's big problems — where they go for Australian batsmen down the track, because not only are they going to lose Warner, they're going to lose (Usman) Khawaja pretty soon, as well," Chappell told Wide World of Sports.
"The replacements? Harris hasn't proved anything, Bancroft hasn't proved anything. The best of them is Pucovski, but it's very difficult to pick him when he's had had 10 or 11 concussions.
"So, opening is a major problem for Australia down the track.
"But at the moment, if Warner makes runs they're OK ... I'm not bothered about the critics because most of them wouldn't know, but if you want to ask me what I think of Warner — well, I think he's a very good player, but like everyone else, he's got to keep making runs to hold his place. But if you're jumping up and down about getting rid of Warner, you've got to think about who you're going to replace him with.
"And if you're thinking of replacing him with Harris, then that's a joke.
