2024 Crowd Watch

With a bit of regularity, this Good Friday eve timeslot could be a very nice one to develop a genuine rivalry between two of the most consistent clubs in recent NRL history. And with the opening of the new Penrith Stadium from 2026 onwards, you could alternate the game between east and west. Be interesting to see if its something all parties pursue as Penrith is arguably the only "big" Sydney club without a public holiday game.

Roosters used to play Brisbane on Good Friday every year at the old SFS and used to get decent crowds (20 - 25k) - but there was nothing else on that night

That fixture use to draw great crowds when the Easter Show was still held in Moore Park.

Similar to the Bulldogs v Rabbitohs concept, it would draw a nice portion of the Easter Show crowd and be one of the Roosters better drawing games.

Unfortunately when the Show moved west, the fixture was no longer an event & the Roosters were happy to forfeit it in exchange for ANZAC Day (especially as Easter Sunday can technically fall as late as April 25)

After round 3 in both codes sorted by largest to smallest in their home city market on the right, with their overall average on the left. Out of personal interest I've included the Dolphins' Suncorp games as a separate line item so I can track their peak interest.

Not only is the revenue gap closing to the AFL, but so is the attendance gap including the Storm who have been slowly creeping up on the bottom attended AFL sides in Melbourne for a while and are currently in front of North Melbourne.

recall seeing them play regularly on Good Friday after the show had moved

e.g. in 2003 Rooster v Brisbane at old SFS got 19,124 on Good Friday (April 18). Next round was Anzac day game v Saints and got 26,000

Not sure if they were happy, more that they were forced to choose in 2011 when ANZAC Day fell on Easter Monday.

I don't know why they didn't restart it the following year. It won't be until 2038 that Easter clashes with ANZAC Day again.

Not sure what the Roosters are doing in terms of releasing seats for Thursday's game, but we are now at the point where the Southern GA is now sold out, leaving on the Northern GA bays and Category 2 on Level 2 on sale.

Category 1 has been down to 3 single seats for the past 24 hours. Bay 230 I know if Platinum Terrace and 231, 232, 233 and 235 are sold for Captains Club, Club 1908 and Open Air Boxes by the Roosters, but I'd be surprised if the rest of Level 2 on the sidelines is full.

Anyway, Red is what is either sold out or down to single seats.
