2024 Crowd Watch

One of your regular points of contention when it comes to NRL clubs and their stadium choices is that clubs could be drawing better crowds playing out of bigger, more modern stadiums. That applies to Hull KR as much as it applies to NRL clubs. Maybe Hull KR would be pulling a higher average if they were playing out of MKM.

‘as soon as it was decided to be built in west hull rovers were never going to play there.’ - that’s the same rationale that has, for example, Tigers fans not keen to play out of Commbank, Allianz etc, as those stadiums are in the heart of Parra and Roosters/Souths territories, yet it’s ok in this case for Hull KR to turn their nose up at a bigger, better stadium?
And I believe Sydney clubs could, because A) NRL is big in a big city and B) They have numerous games against clubs in same city C) the NRL crowd avg is going up and finally getting near 20k. If these clubs honestly cant keep pace with NRL club attendance growth then should they be in the NRL?

Reality for HKR is they arent going to get 15k + playing in West Hull, ever. so moving makes no financial sense. Craven Park will continue to be upgraded as need occurs, This years great crowds have already forced the club to fast track plans for an East stand extension. The land development profits will be ploughed back into the stadium they own. Plans for a new west and south stand and east stand extension. Cronulla's got no public plans for improvement and Tigers, Manly etc want someone else to pay for it.

Not really, Hull and Sydney and its club population spread are very very different. Cronulla have shown 50% of their members dont live in the shire. HKR 90% + of fans live in East Hull.

Hull KR will never know unless they try. Seems defeatist thinking they’ll never draw a crowd playing out of MKM. The Hull derby draws a far bigger crowd at MKM than it does at Craven Park.

Your arguments for Hull KR also apply here, clubs like Manly aren’t going to get 20k+ for regular club games playing out of Allianz in unfriendly time slots like Thursday and Friday nights, not when the club’s core supporter base lives north of the Harbour Bridge. Cronulla own their stadium, as a result it doesn’t make financial sense for them to not play there.

But…

I thought you were always arguing that the Sydney clubs were too insular and regionalised…

In a promising sign, GA North already sold out for Eels v Wests Tigers Easter Monday match. It looks like the match is either at the same point or ahead of where the Manly game was yesterday, with 7 days to go.

Less than 300 grandstand tickets left for Warriors v Knights on Easter Sunday. A smart idea by NRL making this the 4pm Sunday game, we know matches close to 'lunchtime' on key family gathering dates (Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day) are terrible draws, at least with it being 6pm, more people will be available to attend.

WIN Stadium is selling a lot better than I thought it would on Saturday night. Main Grandstand has very solid sales, and there is decent sales in the Southern & Northern Stands. Not sure what the hill is looking like, but it's trending more for a 12K than a 9K.

Only GA left for Sharks v Raiders, so this game should sell out in next couple of days, giving us close to 13K.

Any ideas for the Good Friday game? I cannot see it getting over 30K unfortunately unless South Sydney do some 2 for 1 promotions or something.

doesn't it usually get an inflated crowd due to the Easter show?

No idea yet. Souths & Ticketek have been doing a lot of moving things around, for different parts of today, the various GA sections were taken off sale.

I'd like to think it's them releasing more seats to go on sale to satisfy demand, though I know that's not true.

Even though it is Round 4, this is our first home game of the year. I'd like to think Souths fans will show up, despite our crapness.

Encouraging signs for Thursday's Roosters v Panthers game with Bays 203 - 206 going on sale, the other Level 2 bays on sale (228 & 229) are over 90% sold.

The sideline bays on Level 1 are pretty much sold out now as well, leaving just the corners & GA end bays.
good signs every time they open that up its always 20k +

i reckon they will get 24/26k
