3pm Saturday games are great perfect time to crack a stubby
Not having a dig but wasn't the last time they announced a sellout at Campbelltown there were only just over 11,000 when they announced the official crowd ?I think that’s the third sellout at Campbelltown for WT’s this season.
I can’t remember it happening before this year (I’m sure someone will correct me if that’s wrong).
Maybe Richo coming out and saying that they will start to pay attention to the region might have been just the ticket.
How often do any Sydney teams get a crowd like that against a non Sydney side let alone Canberra? It was a fantastic crowd.I think what's been lost in the aftermath of yesterday's game is how impressive that crowd was, it obliterated the regular season record between the two set in 2000.
Roosters have shown some initiative and tried to create a 2nd event game (ANZAC Day being the first) with this emergency services theme and the inaugural one was a resounding success. It has longevity in it as well as I understand it they will rotate who they honour (fire service or ambos next year).
Should be more of this by all the clubs. I'm sure there are plenty of themes and events to be taken advantage of.
I think this is something that isn’t spoken about enough. You always hear talk about how certain cities or suburbs are seeing huge population growth and the potential for sports to capitalise on it but few talk about the source of that growth. They shouldn't neglect it. I have heard the 'demographic' arguments and I reckon they are bullshit.
It is entirely possible to get non traditional supporters of the sport into the game. Another thing I will credit the Roosters with is the fact they have a fairly healthy contingent of people of East Asian heritage supporting them.

Don’t think so
Tigers v Dragons 17141
Tigers v Brisbane 17351
were the 2 sell out games at C’town
Yes, my bad, i should have checked but was thinking the game against Canberra or Souths they were saying a sellout or very close to it to one of them, think it was Souths game but it only attracted 11,000.
You can add 1500 to the Penrith crowd. Some of the others do seem fanciful though.Round 27 Estimates -
Broncos v Storm - 41,000
Tigers v Eels - 17,200
Rabbits v Roosters - 25,000
Dragons v Raiders - 14,000
Bulldogs v Cowboys - 36,000
Panthers v Titans - 20,000
Sea Eagles v Sharks - 17,000
Knights v Dolphins - 26,000
Total - 196.2k
Average - 24,525
Hopefully a few surprises in there to push it to 200k for the round. Wouldn't mind if they did a 2 for one deal with the 2 Accor games. First 10k to upgrade from each game get to go to the other.
Now just spread the love over to the UK and France.I’m so proud of rugby league at the moment. It’s such an amazing feeling
I think the NRL did agree on the Eora round idea from memory with souths/Parra the following night?I agree.
According to Rugby League Tables, in 2018 the Roosters averaged 13,274 when their primary home was Allianz 1.0 (away team for ANZAC Day and excluding double headers and/or Magic Round for consistency).
In 2024, the Roosters have averaged 21,784 when their primary home was Allianz 2.0 (away team for ANZAC Day and excluding double headers and/or Magic Round for consistency).
That's a phenomenal 64% increase in attendance in six years. It also means the Roosters have gone from having the third lowest home average of a Sydney team in 2018 to the highest home average in 2024.
Clearly the new stadium is a part of this, but as Valheru said, you can also put it down to the determination to create more event games, as well as good promotional campaigns (such as 2 for 1 deals on Mondays), and also improved public transport connectivity with the L2 and L3 Lines running direct to Moore Park.
In 2025, it will be interesting to see if the NRL supports the Roosters' Eora Round proposal, which would see the Roosters host the Bulldogs at Allianz on a Friday night for Indigenous Round. That would give the Roosters a monumental lineup of marquee games in 2025 including:
- Annual clash vs Rabbitohs (with the Wayne Bennett factor) in R3.
- ANZAC Day vs Dragons
- Eora Round vs Bulldogs
- Emergency Services Round vs Raiders
The Roosters could clear a 25k average in 2025 and be second only to the Broncos next year.
I think the Bulldogs could also challenge for No.2 in 2025:
- Good Friday vs Rabbitohs at Accor. This could draw 50k for the first time in over a decade, especially if both teams start the new season well.
- King's Birthday vs Eels at Accor. This could also draw 50k, especially if both teams are in or near the top 8 come winter.
- Venues NSW proposal for Multicultural Round vs Dragons on a Sunday afternoon at Accor.
not agreed too yetI think the NRL did agree on the Eora round idea from memory with souths/Parra the following night?
I don't know if round 3 is a confirmed ongoing thing at the SFS or not and I'm also not sure if we will host as generally they swap who hosts first year to year. In a year we host ANZAC Day, I would prefer to host souths later in the season although going forward I think it is insanity that both clashes aren't at SFS every year.
In regards to Emergency services round, I don't think it is tied to the Raiders but rather whoever we play our last home game against, kind of like old boys day at Newcastle. Sunday did seem to work very well for it so they may well request a Sunday arvo fixture.
Other clubs need to get on board with trying to create events with longevity. on the public holiday side of things there is space on Easter Thursday/Saturday/Sunday which no one has really owned at this stage.
The agreement between Venues NSW, NSW Government, NRL and Roosters is for the match to be the first Sunday in September, and I'm pretty sure there is at least a minimum 3 year commit on it (or could be 5).In regards to Emergency services round, I don't think it is tied to the Raiders but rather whoever we play our last home game against, kind of like old boys day at Newcastle. seem realistic - guessing Broncos v Storm and South v Roosters could be higher. Dogs probably won't get 35kYou can add 1500 to the Penrith crowd. Some of the others do seem fanciful though.
Canberra really need a new stadium and a bit of a finals run to catch upHOME CITY AVERAGES
View attachment 93437
Broncos need a min of 36,630 against the Storm to average 40k for the season.
If Newcastle can get a crowd of 24,580 against the Phins they'll overtake the Roosters end the season with the third highest home city crowds.
Bulldogs only need 10,720 to average 20k in Sydney for the year. A crowd of 30,800 or higher will take them past the Roosters and a crowd of 34,000 plus should see them pip the Knights for the season also.
A crowd of 18,035 at Kogarah will see the Dragons average 17k in Sydney for the year.
A crowd of 11,070 will see Wests Tigers avoid the embarrassing situation of averaging less than Sydney's least favourite team, GWS (12,028) for the year. However, thankfully Campbeltown is sold-out so that scenario would be avoided. It is only the Sharks that fell below GWS because of the capacity restrictions of their stadium.
I forgot about their version of it, although they didn't play for the cup this year, so who knows if it is still going. (There was no presentation, no reference to it pre-match, post-match, etc, no offers to any emergency services personnel, they didn't even present the trophy post match. The promotion was all WIL and DonateLife.)Melbourne v St George Illawarra has been played for the Emergency Services Cup since 2009, following the events of Black Saturday: https://www.melbournestorm.com.au/news/2023/08/17/storm-dragons-face-for-emergency-services-cup/
