On ABC radio they just reported if Newcastle wins, the match in Townsville will indeed be Saturday night.

I guess it works, it just means the week 2 match between storm/sharks and cowboys/knights will have to be played Friday with both teams receiving a 6 day turn around. The Panthers/roosters and dogs/manly match would have to be Saturday with the former getting 8 days and the latter 6.

If dolphins win, according to ABC the Townsville match would be Sunday. No idea why the opponent makes a difference.

Channel 9 said the Cowboys game will be Sunday
Makes no difference who wins today

Why would the knights winning make a difference to when the game is played?

Also, why is the Townsville game scheduled for Sunday? Wouldn't it be much more convenient to have it on Saturday night?
It's because sharks, knights and Manly all can't play Friday which leaves Penrith/roosters as the only option. Everything else flows from that in terms of rest periods for week 2

couldn’t they just play storm shakes Friday, dogs manly Sunday, then play the week 2 match up between those matches the following Saturday?

I suppose they wouldn’t want a 6 day turnaround for the 2 x Saturday games though

No because that would mean 5 day turnaround for sharks next week.

Anyways, dogs/manly winner plays Penrith/roosters so your suggestio still works and looks like what will happen now.

So it should be:

- Penrith v roosters friday
- Storm v sharks Saturday
- Cowboys v knights saturday
- Dogs v manly sunday

Week 2 would then be
- Penrith/roosters v cowboys/knights
- Storm/sharks v dogs/manly

top 4 losers with 7 day turnarounds and bottom 8 winners with 6 days.

makes sense

That doesn't work.

It would give the Roosters/Panthers 2 extra days rest and put Dog/Manly on a 5 day break.

It should be-

Friday: Panthers vs Roosters
Saturday arvo: Dogs vs Manly
Saturday night: Storm vs Sharks
Sunday arvo: Cowboys vs Knights.
