No point arguing it now… it’s in the papers and done.
Im still annoyed at the obstruction call: not because it was wrong, but because technically it was correct. Having said that, the reason it’s technically correct is because the NRL have tried to clear up a grey area in that ruling, and by doing so have put the onus completely on the attacking side. Old mate had no intention of making a tackle, was never going to make the tackle, and used the rule to his advantage. As long as it stays consistent I’m ok with that, but I feel that this incident was against the spirit of the game and should be called out as such. Still…. It’s fish and chip wrappers now, so all we can do is let it go..

You could argue that the reason the defender stops is because he knows he’s not going to get around Jurbo.

He’s denied the opportunity to move through and then Turbo took the space Moretti could have been in if Jurbo wasn’t in the way.

I really don’t think we should be asking referees to guess what defenders might or might not do if an obstructing player isn’t there.

The key is in the wording the bunker uses too - he is denied the opportunity. Whether he would or wouldn’t have moved there or whether he would or wouldn’t have made the tackle is irrelevant.
