Rava plays outside Lomax, Feagai plays outside Moses Suli. Massive difference when it comes to getting good ball in attack and help in defence. Hasler would not drop him and let him go that easily.

For a big man like Moses in the centres, I am amazed at how many tackles he misses or lack of big hits that he makes. He defence is as much to blame as Feagai in that side of the field. Luckily Flanno will fix that and not ignore teh obvious and move players around to accommodate weakness or lack of coaching.

Kyle Flannagan will be interesting to see in 2024. He played with Burton mostly in the halves and he is nowhere near as good as Hunt. Kyle next to Hunt should see him improve significantly from his time at the Dogs. As for the Roosters, they simply preferred Walker and you cannot deny them this as at the time Walker was a much cheaper alternative to Kyle and a slightly better player. He did have a solid year at the Chooks before he got snapped up by the Dogs. Judging any player at the Dogs should be like judging players under Hook. They all seem to go backwards. Dogs players too busy counting their pub shares.

Wrong.
I thought someone might try to blame Suli for Matt Feagai's shortcomings.
First of all, in case you forgot, Hook switched Suli and Lomax for a good part of 2023 and the reason for that was to give Feagai some help in defence - to no avail. Suli didn't play on the left with Matt Feagai until round 15. Suli played on the right and played well over there, especially when paired with an experienced wing/centre like Moga, someone who knew how to position himself - they combined for 5 tries in 2 games in rounds 7 & 8. Hook of course failed to join the dots and dropped Moga - should have dropped Feagai instead, put Lomax and Rav on one side and Suli and Moga on the other at least we could have made some extra metres and scored some tries.
Suli finished the year with 6 try assists and 5 line break assists ( Lomax had 7 and 4 respectively), not great for either of them but the Dragons don't really do "early ball out wide".
On Suli's defence, his completion rate is higher than Lomax but you're right he struggles to turn and chase which makes it more crucial for us to dump MF for someone with a bit of toe who can run down those breaks. Watch any highlights where MF has to turn and chase a break by the opposition (often his fault in the first place) and unless it's a forward he's chasing he doesn't get within cooee of making a tackle ever.
I suggested watching the round 19 Cronulla game to see how poor MF's game is but to drive that home watch the highlights of the round before that against NZ where DWZ got outside MF three times with ease for a hat trick - I'm sure Cronulla watched that as they planned their strategy for the following week.

Suli, I sense needs to be fitter and get more involved in the game. He could probably lose 5 kilo’s and not lose a lot of impact.

I think that would be wonderful & it might help with his defence if it results in better agility. We'll find out this season since Flanno has made an emphasis on fitness. Not just Suli but the entire squad being fitter will hopefully translate in better defence through less fatigue leading to better defensive decision making & more consistent impact in attack.

I haven't looked at the stats but it wouldn't surprise me if there was a lopsided penalty/error count in our first 20-30mins compared to the rest of the game. Fitness has a massive impact on decision making, especially in such a reactive sport.

o Ramsey should certainly add an extra slot, I just hope thats sorted before christmas.. surely after last years dry run the NRL wont waste months sitting on the decision.

o Amone I guess we find out early next week.

o If we did get AFB for 2024.. that would probably also mean a player swap.. if indeed we could up with anyone a) the warriors wanted b) the dragons can afford to lose and c) a player that is willing to go to NZ immediately.. which imo is pretty unlikely with our roster.

Hi DP

I think Russell is a hard working solid back rower.

He will be on the fringe of top 17 selection, but as the Coachman’s develop further during the season I think Russell will find it harder and harder to get game time.

Bird is another player that will need to improve on his 2023 performance if he is to get many minutes in 2024. Unless Flanno sees him as a Centre or 5/8. We have JDB & Sele as 13s.

Saints forever, Russell may be a bit of a wild card as flanno has coached him through the kumuls that maybe why he was signed,,maybe flanno can turn him into a workhorse and develop him further

I hope so QLD redvee

He is another solid good character

If Flanno can get Dan to lift his game, we will have another top 17 option

He is definitely a workhorse

Thanks @getsmarty for posting this.

3 confirmed spots with 2 uncertain.

1. Ramsay: we haven't been told what the NRL has decided, but, imo, there are options: (a) no compensation and retain top 30 spot
(b) salary compensation but stay in top 30
(c) both salary compensation and can exclude from top 30 squad.

Obviously (c) would be our ultimate result.

2. Amone:I feel both the Dragons and NRL will wait until at least the result of the sentencing on Monday, before making any announcement. His fate may have already been decided as far as playing NRL anytime soon, whether that be custodial or community service sentence (I'm no legal eagle, so I'm not even going to guess the sentencing)

So, I think we will have 4 spots to fill, with added compensation from Ramsay.
