No chance.

Maybe if ch10 goes broke and they buy a Studio.

Production is only part of it. They need some where to do pre and post games.

Panel shows etc
If they own GA then they have all the equipment. RLHQ already has a studio. The EQ also has AFTRS and Fox studios nearby if needed for panels. But really, the RLHQ studio is enough.

What they need next is data and streaming capabilities. They won't have that in place for this deal but maybe the next one.

Most of this forum were accusing him of the opposite when he scaled back nrl digital

maybe the economics of self streaming are getting better

Fox has to make huge profits of its nrl coverage
Well you don't buy a sports production business unless you're interested in going into sports production.

Fox have their producers, Camera men etc working on other projects in the business.

NRL wouldn't have that so have to pay higher during the 9 months to keep staff
Is this what all the talk was about buying Super League and making it a winter sport? Year round subscribers to sell to broadcasters or for an NRL broadcasting platform?

That could be part of it.

I give TV 2-3 more deals before it plateau's out. Where the sports go to fill the void is key to them continuing to grow.

Cricket has the huge market in India which matches what Fox pays locally.

Racing is 12 months though.

Problem for sports doing their own production is costs during the off season
If NRL buys super league and turns it back into a winter sport, then you’ve got 12 months of competition. You can add internationals, twice a year at origin time and post-NRL season and if they’re smart and find a way to play a summer 9’s circuit competition with lower graders, like SG Ball to NSW/Qld Cup level there’s plenty of content. Just saddle up to NSW Racing and some Cricket Australia competitions

Fox contract out to NEP too (which is where the aleague fled to when GA went under with no notice).

Then theres Gravity which is the other big non network house, which bought or merged a chunk of Telstras production and broadcast gear, and works with Nine and Ten. Also Eddie McGuires JamTV which does a lot of the second tier leagues and off field AFL broadcast work., working with Nine and Seven.

Key assets include but are not limited to:
  • world-class advanced remote production facilities
  • fit-for purpose studio in Randwick
  • four fully fitted outside broadcast vehicles and a number of support / ancillary vehicles

also I missed this back in March regarding Kantar, and Foxtels unhappiness with OZtam

If Foxtel’s measurement system is applied to women’s AFL match, the audience lifts by 24%, for the NRL equivalent the rise is 52%.

TV audiences for magazine shows for both codes lifted by 153% and 49%, respectively.

For those in the Streamers don't need ads camp.

Amazon Prime has the T20 world Cup and ads between overs

I know NEP do the games but I thought Fox used their own for NRL 360 and so on?

Pretty much a cost price endeavour. A single mobile unit will charge about $15k-$25k a day. A year of racing shoots and you've essentially made your money back.

Do you think he has realised what they let perish at NRL Digital was of value and he's looking to correct that? Or was NRL Digital just some rubbish costing heaps and this is a far better proposition?

Didn’t Supercars go to its own production? Only sport that has as far as I know.
