I’m guessing that seeing as it’s never mentioned in any media deal it significantly less then nz pay. Mikail do you have to pay to watch nrl on your phone or is it free like telstra app used to be?
You would have to be a serious recreational drug user, to think that the PNG TV Market is some gold money pit, and work anything like the NZ market is.

So the Kangaroos rate better than the Wallabies (even for the Bledisloe) now and Rugby League Players are on tour in England, pull sold out crowds in New Zealand and get to go to Vegas? Plus we have 9 decently competitive international sides with professional squads.

What happened to the stereotypes? Leather patch brigade's heads will be spinning.

Play Rugby League see the Pacific's biggest sport, play Rugby Union see empty stadiums.

That data doesn’t tell the whole story without mentioning what time the games were played and what time of year ? Prime time mid season will always rate higher than Sunday arvo.

Theres always been an audience for Int league, just need to play it more often and at the right time
I thought the mid season break for Origin with the Tonga v Samoa test on the Fri was great.

For some reason TV hated it though.

Thats fair. I think I intended to use the post to discuss the belief that you can replace half a dozen season rounds with some internationals but i got sidetracked and never got round to it.

Circling back to Gus Goulds comments on 100% footy, after talking to David Gyngall he was of the opinion we could play 16 rounds and it wouldn’t make a difference to what the networks pay. I don’t see how that adds up…

If the season is shortened the tv deal surely will be less. In the end it won’t be the nrl that decides the length of the season it will be 9 and fox telling the nrl what they want to pay for.

personally I’d love a short ‘less is more ‘ season, I struggle to get excited between rounds 12 to 20 but I can’t see it ever happening.

If the nrl was stopped mid season then the decline in interest mid season would lessen

Origin sucks up all the oxygen

It would be interesting to see some crowd and viewership figures for Big Bash Cricket.

It was the hottest ticket in town and must watch TV, then they got greedy and extended the season and crowds and tv audience plummeted. More isn’t always better.

The current England v Samoa has been reduced to 2 games, they have had a big rise in crowds and tv audience from last years 3 Test series. Less is more.

The theory with shortening the NRL season is you’d get a rise in attendance and tv viewers, and so a shorter season wouldn’t negatively effect the tv deals.

The most successful completion on the planet plays only 16 games, why haven’t the NFL increased their season to 24 games ?
