Just watched the replay on the BBC app, and the coverage lasted about 20-25 minutes after the game. The host was so impressed by Nathan Cleary going around and doing selfies and signing jersies for the crowd; mentioned it at least twice (including the last thing he said to camera) before signing off. ‘This is the best player in the world, he must be gutted to have lost that way but he is still out here making time for the crowd’. He was in awe.

They could but its not meant to be an exhibtion match.

If its an after-thought because of Vegas then I am in favour of scrapping it for 2025. I am a fan of the concept but not on board with it being shafted around like this.

This match belongs in England, not much interest here, but it means so much to them to win that they are prepared to award tries when half a metre short. I'd be happy to see Penrith politely decline if we manage to be the premiers again. Let them think about how they run what must be a pretty lucrative event for them.

World Club Challenge 2025: Nathan Cleary Magic Round suggestion, Ivan Cleary, Liam Farrell comments, reaction, Penrith Panthers v Wigan Warriors, Las Vegas

Appreciate the idea. Nathan Cleary wants it on during Magic Round.

It would mean no team gets the bye in the NRL. TV will be happy showing an extra game and you bring in the English audience that week. You also get these teams mid-season rather than in the pre-season which we know has an impact of the quality of the match.

I'm a fan of the WCC concept but not a fan of implementing the idea for 2025 like this. We are just moving it around and trying to fit it in. I'd prefer a more thorough discussion between the NRL/SL to take place first. Scrap it for 2025.

And kick out which NRL team? That isn't going to happen.

And if we are to play the WCC in Vegas separately to our round 1 game then its a terrible decision. We'd be spending another week in Vegas to prepare. That would have a massive impact on the rest of 2025.

The club wants to prioritise another premiership which will be the toughest one we've had in the entire run. Its not in our interests to play an extra game overseas in 2025.

This has been made more difficult than it needs to be. It is really simple. Align the seasons and Grand Finals for both competitions. Two weeks after the season ends play the WCC final. this gives teams a week to celebrate and travel and acclimatise. Play the game in Asia and meet halfway. Hong Kong has a rugby stadium. Singapore has a soccer stadium that could be used. Thailand has a soccer stadium. Make it a promotional event for Rugby League., there are plenty of expats from both countries in Asia who would go and watch, as well as travelling fans from both sides.

Throwing in the USA round one game just makes it very draining for the team that has to travel twice to play games at the start of the season. Two lots of jet lag, two lots of climate adjustment. It is dumb to inflict that work load on players.
