Embarrassing.
Your team had to go and play in those conditions for you, yet you'd rather sit in front of a fire or heater at home rather than get out and support them.

They aren’t playing for us. They’re playing for the 100s of thousands or millions of dollars they’re getting paid. Come on. Plenty of people around the country play in those sorts of conditions without any payment (in fact we pay for the privilege) and we do it because it’s fun. It’s hardly some huge self sacrifice.

Not everyone wants to go sit in an open stadium in wet freezing conditions (especially once you have a family). I’ve now got a 1 week old, 2 year old and a 4 year old. If you think we’re taking our family to the footy in those conditions in that stadium you’re kidding and I doubt I’m alone.

If anything is to blame it’s the poor stadium infrastructure in Canberra. You might get a few more to show up if they weren’t in such a dog shit stadium.

According to wiki the highest raiders crowd average is 17,392 in 1994 the last year they won the comp

Historically their crowd average according to afl tables is just over 11k and around 12k at Bruce

This year they are averaging around 17,000? (Couldn’t find the exact figure) at Bruce stadium only which is hugely up on their long term average there

Crowds like that only build the case for a new stadium

Aussies told me in the late 80s that RL was the 4th most popular football code in the ACT before the success of the Raiders.

Remember seeing pics in Rugby League Week of the 24k crowd at Bruce for the 1991 final-round game against the Dragons. Seemed like a possible inflection point, but general consensus in the letters page was 1) Don't write off the other codes and 2) Raiders urgently need a customized stadium to capitalize.

Dogs are the only team in the comp that get 1.5 public holiday home games each year. Should be alternating with Eels and now they aren’t playing in Darwin they could keep the game at Olympic Park. You have an impressive bandwagon, now the club has to work hard at keeping some of them there in the bad years

Given the size of the crowd expected today (over 60000) what a crying shame it isn’t on FTA. Would be an amazing advert for our code and and add to the growing trend of increased attendances.

You have an impressive bandwagon, now the club has to work hard at keeping some of them there in the bad years

It should alternate yearly but the Eels didn't want to move this game from Commbank! You cannot potentially lock out 30,000 to play this at Commbank

There is no King's Birthday public holiday in Qld today. They have it in October. The states and territories who are having King's Birthday today are NSW, Victoria, SA, Tasmania, ACT and NT. Not sure why Qld and WA have it on another day.

It may be less appealing for FTA with Queenslanders at work while the game kicks off.
