Thursday night scares me particularly when the game isn’t located near either base of supporters. It’s a cowardly estimate and I’m hoping to be embarrassingly wrong :)

Full ticketed memberships are a gold mine for clubs that can build decent fanbases. And they do impact crowd size as you are more likely to still get a decent crowd if its raining or if form is dipped if people have already bought their tickets through a full membership. The well supported clubs are making nearly as much money from game day activity as they are from the NRL grant generated by the tv deal.
Not to mention full stadiums present a picture of a healthy sport which gets sponsors more interested in being involved.
Given some afl clubs, particularly one in Sydney, have membership numbers more than triple their average attendance I’d suggest that some clubs are counting very differently to others.
And yes fully ticketed members are a huge bonus which is why that Broncos data was so impressive.

Dragons v Eels is surprisingly selling quite well at WIN Stadium. The club has already put the back 5 rows on sale in all the grandstands (unless it's a big game, its not uncommon for these not to go on sale) and most of the concourse has been sold out. Grandstand areas don't have a lot of availability outside of the corners.

Unless the club has been holding back large chunks of seats or the weather turns terrible, this game is actually on track for 16K+.

So what? What happens when they have an NRL team that plays there 11 times a year? What happens when Origin comes back to Perth and the Bears are in the comp? It's the reality of being in the NRL
For perspective, the Perth game got the same crowd (10k) as the GWS game in Sydney. Only difference is there was actually 10k in Perth, whereas half the stadium in Sydney was completely empty so you'd need the other half at capacity to get 10k, which it wasn't. They would have done well to have 5k at the GWS game, that's what 15 years and millions of dollars in investment is getting them.
I'd certainly hope the Bears are doing better than that in year 1.

2 Sydney clubs drew the same pr less than a Perth neutral game at the weekend despite them actually being their clubs and having had decades of fan base building. Im not worried about our potential crowds!

That’s just the thing they aren’t in the NRL. If you played a game of Canberra vs the knights in Brisbane 2 days after origin what sort of crowd would you get charging those prices?

When the bears are in the comp Perth will have their own team to support and presumably will build up a fan base who will want to attend games.
I guess you missed the announcement where they were added to the NRL? A city with that buzz behind it can't manage to pull more than 10k to a game because Origin was 2 days earlier? Piss poor excuse.

The Brisbane analogy doesn't work because we already have two teams, and not starved of NRL but sure, we would still pull more than 10k to Canberra v Knights 2 days after Origin easily

So because some Sydney teams are drawing shit crowds, it's all good for Perth? Do you really need an NRL team of that's going to be the bar you set?

The Perth game could have been better but it was poor scheduling. The Dolphins game last year packed out HBF Park even with a West Coast Eagles game on at the same time. Clearly most of them picked Origin over the Dolphins game this year and I don't blame them.

I'm saying lets set bars that are realistic and in keeping with what we see in the comp currently. A 20-25k membership and a 15-17K crowd avg in year 1-3 will be a realistic goal I would say and a good achievement for an AFL city starting from scratch again.

Ssssh that doesnt feed his Perth nay saying!
He'll conveniently ignore last seasons sell out and focus on this years 10k as it suits his narrative.

Saturday was a glimpse into the grind of Perth's regular attendances.

There are going to be sub-10K Bears crowds semi-regularly.
