2025 Crowd Watch

Was at Suncorp for Phins vs South Sydney, and was on Caxton Street for Broncos vs Wahs.

Great atmosphere around town all day. I like the concept of a mini magic round with Broncos and Phins home games in the 3:00pm and 7:30pm time slots.
The Phins crowd showed that they missed an opportunity to get the Broncos and Warriors supporters to stick around and attend thier game. Could have used a discount or something to pull those people back down the road for Caxton St.

Neither game seemed to capitalise on the extra fans in town and the crowds looked not much different than if they were playing on separate days.

I'm sure it was a great day out for those who utilised the 2 games but that wasn't many.

Opportunity missed.

For all the ratings and crowds that Origin brings.. looking at the crowds and ratings during Origin period, I say it massively cannibalises the NRL.
The NRL was flying until Origin.
Every year I feel more like I can't wait till Origin is over.

I think there might be an argument that being on the same day hurt the Phins crowd more than it helped it.

Suncorp members turnout was even worse than usual (not sure those guys actually attend anything but Origin).

This round will likely be over 160k which will be in the top 50 since 1908.
This will be the 9th 160k round so far this year.
in comparison to pre COVID the crowds have been much more resilient during the origin period

Rounds like this current one aren't the problem. It's the ones the weekend before Origin when teams are missing all their Origin players. Obviously they can't do anything atm but I can see something being done for the next broadcast deal.

Awesome job storm, they're building nicely. Also, for those disappointed with the Phins crowd... How many exactly would you have liked there? 3rd highest drawing team in the NRL and the 22k crowd pulled the NRL average up, not down.

And no, there were no kiwi fans interested in sticking around no matter what discount you offered. They were interested in watching the Wahs, then hitting the town, not watching two teams they have no interest in.

3 too many in my opinion. I don't think the extra money is worth screwing the season.

Clubs aren't happy with the current system anyway so something will change in the next broadcast deal, I'm certain of it.
Will never happen but I’d prefer an annual one off game.

My ideal setup is just to pause the competition for 3 weeks and have Men's Origin on Sunday Night and make it an all day event like the GF. You could play the Men's Under 19's Origin at 4pm?

They probably won't go that far but something will change.

Can confirm this was also the case for the Wahs players themselves - having stayed on the same floor in the same hotel as some of the players, they were also interested in hitting the town (completely reasonable when they are based in Borekland)
