There are plenty of viable alternatives

Even if we accept that for commercial reasons it will never not be Wednesday nights mid season, why not just do it 3 Wednesdays in a row and lessen the impact on the NRL season?

It loses the build up and preparation for the sides

Level 4 open now.

8 players missing which 100% will effect the crowd and what it might've got.
For sure, though credit to the Bulldogs & their fans this year that they are continuing to buy up big for games like this.

Level 4 now being open means the game is more likely heading towards 25K territory. Agree non-Origin impacted weekend, it would have been more likely pushing 35K

By my reckoning after 17 rounds, 128 games:

2023 -- 2,367,077
2024 -- 2,429,955 +2.7%
2025 -- 2,539,432 +4.5%

Note: 2023 is the total of 123 crowds accounting for magic round;
2024 has 122 crowds with magic round and Vegas double header;
2025 has 121 crowds with magic round, Vegas double header and Perth double header.

Great to see crowds still increasing this year despite the high growth we had in '23 and '24, and Penrith not being able to play out of their stadium.

I'd hope this trend will continue for the remainder of the year, with the close competition we have.. we have teams 5 through to 16 still fighting for a spot in the top 8. Not to mention a tussle with the top 4 potentially in flux, Warriors being injury hit opens up a slot for a Broncos, Penrith or Roosters to sneak in there. All the ingredients for a competitive and crowd-encouraging last third of the season.

In comparison with the AFL, their top 7 spots are pretty much set already. Only the last 8th spot is still in contention by a few teams. The bottom 8 or 9 teams are pretty much too far gone for a place in the top 8 already with plenty left of their season to play. This will affect their crowds negatively you would think, though West Coast get 45k crowds even though they've been dead last for years.

Encouraging to see that Level 2 South has been put on sale at Allianz Stadium for Sunday's match, with majority of Cat 1 and Cat 2 in the lower bowl now sold.

Raiders v Dragons has also enjoyed some decent movement over the past 24 hours, with the sales map currently looking like below:

Nice observation on Roosters and Tigers. I suspect this will crack 20k based on release of Level 2 South tickets this far out.

Canberra starting to get behind the Raiders. Great to see. Hope that can also crack 20k.

Roosters v Tigers NRL preceded by Roosters v Warriors NRLW and Raiders v Dragons NRL preceded by Raiders v Dragons NRLW.

Is it being unduly optimistic to hope the NRLW games are helping to shift a few more tickets?

Initially playing at an athletics venue- Olympic Park didn't help. Capacity was small and a not a fit for purpose rugby league venue. Some may have wonderful nostalgia with Olympic Park. People in Brisbane may think the same thing with old Lang Park, but Suncorp takes it to another level or two.

As for post Bellamy era, the Storm may drop in the lower half of the ladder. But I don't think their core, die hard support will be drop down to an average of 8 to 10,000. You would like to think Storm's core suppprt is much greater than that.
I have been a member of Storm since 98. I went to watch a game and I was hooked..never went to another AFL game.

I think we can confidently say they are helping shift some tickets, the unknowns are whether that's a few hundred or a few thousand, and whether it is people who are more fans of the NRLW side deciding to go to the double header or if it's people being more inclined to go to the match because they're perceiving a double header as better value.

On the NRLW matches, all reserve seating at Totally Workwear Stadium has been sold out for Saturday's Broncos v Wests Tigers match, with only limited GA left. No idea how the season opener at Shark Park is selling, though hopefully it will get a decent turnout.
