2025 First coach sacked

I’m not critical of Robbo about how they went out the end of the year given the injuries, but in recent years despite having the best roster in the league I can’t remember them ever beating the top teams once during the regular season when they had all their players. There may have been a time I’m forgetting but I can’t remember any.

The Roosters haven't had the best roster in the league at any point during the 2020s, 2018 and 2019 is probably the last year we had the best roster in the comp.

We've lacked a competitive spine in recent years. Tedesco, Keary, Walker and Brandon Smith were never going to be able to compete with Edwards, Luai, Cleary, Kenny or Papenhuyzen, Munster, Hughes and Grant.

What are these better resources Robbie supposedly has access to? Is it a better Coe? More masseurs, dieticians etc? Better business connections to entice signings? Or is it Nick's golf game?

From the little I know of the club and its signing processes they have current players and ex players sell players on the club, they help players after footy with businesses, coaching jobs or media jobs, the third party agreements are always lucrative and the club is considered highly professional.

Plus, obviously Bondi is quite beautiful and scenic, the Roosters almost always have a competitive team that makes the finals, they've got great staff, a world class coach, beautiful stadium and facilities etc. If Robbo was coaching the North Queensland Cowboys for example then things would of course be considerably different.

Ryles will not get sacked after one year even if they get the spoon.

O'Brien seems most likely of the 3
You're right about Ryles - the board will understand that a rebuild will take a season or maybe even two to start showing dividends. If the Eels form hasn't improved by the back-end of 2026, they'll be concerned though.

Good call on O'Brien, I think everyone involved in the club would be tired of finishing about 7th or 8th then getting beaten in the first week of the finals - BUT who can lift them higher on the table & get them winning in September?

I know I've raised this point before, but I'll do it again, as I feel it really should be taken into consideration for a debate like this: Who is available out there who is a better option than whatever coach is in the firing line?

A couple of years ago, lurking in the shadows were Des Hasler, Shane Flanagan, Cameron Ciraldo, and Jason Ryles. All have been snapped up. Brad Arthur over in the UK is about the only one I can think of off-hand who would be a likely consideration, but even he's got a contract for the next year or so.

Please, let it be so.

I've been patient and tolerant enough to actually want him to be successful at Newcastle. All the sh*t week after week, year after year would have been worth it if it was building to a successful period in the club's history. But it's not.

Okay, he's not coaching them to drop balls or miss tackles, ect, but my point is: He's not coaching it out of them either.
His grinding, boring, insipid game plan that does not work with our players is also 100% on him.

Time for AOB to go elsewhere, I'm afraid.

Why are people calling for AOB's head? Leave him where he is as it only opens the opportunity for your club to sign him as head coach given he has been involved in multiple GF winning teams as he has told us previously. (apologises to our Newcastle supporter friends on LU)

Precisely. There's little to no options around that have had first grade experience, so any replacement is likely to be a gamble on some NRL assistant coach, or someone from the UK Superleague or at a very outside chance a 2nd tier (NSW or Qld Cup) coach.

That's risky stuff.

Tons of options out there, from the assistant coaches alone you have the following who have coached hundreds of first grade games:

Brian McDermott, Jason Taylor, Justin Holbrook and Nathan Brown

Less experienced include the likes of:

John Morris, Josh Hannay and Trent Barrett

Super League you've got the following experienced coaches:

Adrian Lam, Brad Arthur, John Cartwright, Matt Peet and Steve McNamara

Obviously both Billy Slater and Laurie Daley are available if the right team wants to hire them similar to Madge last year, as well.

Apart from those you have the coaches that have been out of the game either short term or long term such as Walters, Toovey and Demetriou. Throw in all the assistant coaches that have never had first grade experience and the NSW Cup/NRLW coaches and you'd probably easily have 20-30 coaches willing to fill a spot if the right offer came along.
