EDIT: Quick reference article for all 2025 draw info

Remarkably we're already seeing info about next season. This in today's SMH from Michael Chammas:

The Sydney Roosters, South Sydney Rabbitohs and Wests Tigers would host games at Allianz Stadium as part of a proposal for a three-day mini Magic Round in Sydney to celebrate next season’s Indigenous Round.

The concept, dubbed Eora Round, is the brainchild of the Sydney Roosters and has been submitted as a proposal to the NRL as part of a push for an annual festival of footy in the Moore Park precinct starting from 2025. It has the backing of NSW minister for sport, Steve Kamper.

The proposal, now being considered by the NRL, is for the Roosters, Rabbitohs and Wests Tigers to host games against other teams based inside the Eora nation.

The Roosters would take on the Bulldogs and the Wests Tigers would host the Dragons as part of an all-Sydney blockbuster weekend towards the end of May.

The Rabbitohs, who have been manoeuvring behind the scenes to play more games out of Allianz Stadium, would host Parramatta.

“The Sydney Roosters are delighted to partner with other NRL clubs, Venues NSW, and the NRL to establish what we anticipate will become a premier event during the annual Indigenous Round,” Roosters chief executive Joe Kelly said.

“Together, we plan to celebrate and showcase the rich heritage and talent of our Indigenous communities. Our club has a rich heritage and culture that’s headlined by incredible Indigenous players who have been leaders both on and off the field. We’re committed to celebrating them and our current players to inspire the next generation.”

The idea, created by the Roosters 18 months ago, has the backing of Venues NSW - the owners and operators of the Sydney Cricket Ground, Allianz Stadium, Accor Stadium (Sydney Olympic Park), CommBank Stadium (Parramatta), WIN Stadium (Wollongong) and McDonald Jones Stadium (Newcastle).

Venues NSW chairman David Gallop has implored the NRL to implement the initiative next year.

“The Eora Round is an exciting concept and will be a great celebration of Indigenous culture in Sydney with some of our other home teams,” Gallop told this masthead.

“I was involved in establishing the Indigenous All Stars while at the NRL and saw first-hand how much pride the players and fans took in it.

“We hope the Eora Round develops into a special new marquee event at Allianz Stadium that will celebrate the great contribution of Indigenous athletes to rugby league and bring our whole community closer together.”

The Roosters tried to get the concept off the ground for this year but only had South Sydney’s support when they pitched the idea last season.

They’ve since managed to convince new Wests Tigers chief executive Shane Richardson to take one of the club’s home games to Moore Park if the NRL approves the concept.

“Eora Round represents an exciting opportunity to celebrate our incredible Indigenous culture and reinforce Sydney’s place as the premier sporting destination in Australia,” NSW minister for sport Steve Kamper said.

“These festivals of sport are increasingly popular with the fans and can deliver a real boost to the local Sydney economy.”

The Tigers held a board meeting on Monday where Richardson presented the club’s stadium strategy for the next few years following a $40 million government funding injection into Leichhardt Oval.

The Tigers are expected to take home games against Parramatta and Penrith to CommBank Stadium next year. They’ll also host a game at Magic Round, splitting the remaining eight home games between Leichhardt and Campbelltown.

The Herald has obtained an email, sent to NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo, that was also sent to eight NRL clubs, by Venues NSW chief executive Kerrie Mather.

Mather has written to Abdo regarding a number of scheduling requests as the NRL begins work on the 2025 draw.

The requests include:
  • Eora Round: Indigenous round concept featuring the Roosters v Bulldogs, Rabbitohs v
Eels and Tigers v Dragons played over three consecutive days at Allianz Stadium
  • Panthers v Bulldogs on a long weekend at CommBank Stadium
  • Anzac Day: Knights v Cowboys alternating years to celebrate the military presence in
    both cities
  • Anzac Day eve match at Allianz Stadum between Rabbitohs and Manly
  • Dragons v Raiders on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon at WIN Stadium
  • Eels v Bulldogs annually round one at CommBank Stadium
  • Bulldogs v Dragons during multicultural round on a Sunday at Accor Stadium

While South Sydney and the Roosters struggle to agree on much given their long-standing rivalry, Rabbitohs chief executive Blake Solly has endorsed the Eora Round proposal.

“We are for anything that increases the profile and stature of the Indigenous Round,” Solly said.

“It’s a hugely important occasion for the game and particularly, our club, so we would want to be involved in anything that elevates the status of the game.”

The concept would require NRL consultation with broadcast partners Nine, the publisher of this masthead, and Fox Sports to ensure the terms and conditions of the television rights contract are met.

Dear Andrew

Venues NSW Future Scheduling Congratulations on a successful start to the 2024 season. Strong attendance and strong TV numbers demonstrate Rugby Legue has never been stronger and attendances at our venues is showing the same. In 2025 the Venues NSW network will host home games from eight of the ten NSW based clubs. An opportunity we are grateful for and one that we do not take lightly. Given the number of games (72 plus finals) we believe there is an opportunity to work collaboratively with the NRL and our partner clubs to optimise the home game schedule with a view to maximising attendance and creating more tentpole moments throughout the season. Tentpole moments such as Good Friday, Easter Monday, ANZAC Day, and the Kings Birthday create value and opportunity for the clubs, NRL, broadcasters and Venues NSW, as full venues create a strong broadcast product and return for the clubs and venues. The defining factor of the current tentpole matches is the consistency of date and opposition team which makes them must attend/watch matches for even the most casual Rugby League fan. In consultation with our partner club's we have identified the following list of opportunities for
future seasons:

• Eora Round - Indigenous round concept featuring the Roosters v Bulldogs, Rabbitohs v Eels and Tigers v Dragons played over three consecutive days at Allianz Stadium

• Panthers v Bulldogs on a long weekend at CommBank Stadium • ANZAC Day - Knights v Cowboys every second year to celebrate the military presence in
both cities at McDonald Jones Stadium
ANZAC Day eve match at Allianz Stadum (Rabbitohs v Manly)

• Dragons v Raiders on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon at WIN Stadium
Eels v Bulldogs annually round one at CommBank Stadium

• Bulldogs v Dragons during multi-cultural round on a Sunday at Accor Stadium
Good move from venues nsw (gallop)

Alrc should be thinking of this not the stadium management company

Big fan of this concept. We've already seen how much better Rabbitohs v Eels performs at Allianz versus Accor and the other two match ups can be big fixtures.

Arguably looking at worse case of 60K and ideally around 90K for 3 games which drew 50K this year.

The idea of having an idea is good. However only one of those is a good idea. Eora Round (though not that name).

Looks good except for Eels Dogs at Commbank in Round 1 each year.

I might be wrong but wouldn't this have potential for more than Commbank can hold? And why waste an event game in Round 1? The crowd will be there anyway, save the big games for later.

Manly expected to be away team/on a bye for Magic Round. Hopefully it means an extra match at Brookvale.

Sea Eagles to play 12 home games at 4 Pines Park in 2025

Manly MediaWed 25 Sep 2024, 03:17 PM
Manly Warringah Sea Eagles are pleased to announce that all 12 home games in 2025 will be played at their spiritual ground following the tremendous support seen at 4 Pines Park, Brookvale, this season.

The Sea Eagles sold out 8 of their 10 home games at 4 Pines Park with almost 165,000 supporters coming through the gates.

The two games not to sell out were against Canberra Raiders on a very wet Friday night and the Gold Coast Titans.

For many years now, the Sea Eagles have historically taken home matches away from Brookvale with games played at Gosford, Albury, Christchurch and Mudgee.

Manly also took their annual home game against the Brisbane Broncos to Suncorp Stadium with that deal ending this season.

The Sea Eagles also played a 2024 home game at Allegiant Stadium as part of the NRL’s historic double header in Las Vegas in March.

Sea Eagles CEO Tony Mestrov welcomed the decision to play 12 home games at 4 Pines Park.

“Our Members and supporters have been crying out for this to happen for a long time now and we are very pleased to be in a strong position to be able to do this in 2025,’’ Mestrov said.

“The crowds we saw at 4 Pines Park were absolutely phenomenal and our members and supporters certainly voted with their feet by turning out in force to watch our team make their charge to the finals.

“The exciting style we played and the success of the team saw 4 Pines Park become the ‘Fortress’ again.”

2025 Sea Eagles Membership packages go on sale in early October with supporters being able to choose from 12, 6 and 3 home game packages.

This Mestrov fella is good. Of all the 1990s plodders to have emerged from Manly and become prominent since, I definitely have him above Matthew Nable.

Inshallah the Penns keep selling artificial sweeteners in Tuscaloosa and leave the club alone for a bit longer.
