JT and Joey weren't yet showing their "generational talent" at Origin level when they were the same age as Cleary.

Lockyer was a bad series away from getting dropped when he was on the verge of 30.

Mitchell Moses was a meme until he was 27-28, not the guy NSW apparently missed tonight.

NSW are blessed with a few genuinely good halves options at the moment, which puts further weight on the shoulders of Chin to have these elite-level games in Origin. If he was awarded that try late in the first half, people would be talking completely differently about him right now...
Did you type this with a straight face?

The chin is 27. JT was 27 in 2010, a series clean sweep for QLD where he was MOTM in game 1. The year prior QLD won the first two games making game 3 a dead rubber, JT was again MOTM in the first game.

Andrew Johns had others in front of him at the same age

As for the last bit "If only they would award Nathan a try for obstruction"

Your boy is a hack at origin level.

If Stefano whatever the f**k his name is hadn’t of obstructed one of the Maroon merkins then Nathan could have had a match turning try. His luck with injury is really hampering him but sure he’s the easy target for you pricks. Mitch Piss only won the one comp in his career off the back of Sonny Bill and Maloney anyway.. he never won Origin man of the match awards like Nathan in Game 2 of 2020 and 2022 or won a GF practically on his own like Nathan in 2023.
Yeah if only Nathan was awarded illegal tries....

And the rest of your rant is kind of the point. Cleary is a far better player than Pearce at club level, no one is disputing that. One of the two performed to expectations at rep level and the other hasn't gotten close.

Make sense now?

Anyone seriously trying to compare Myth Piss to Nathan Cleary is obviously a clueless moron.

I think it is hilarious observing the amount of irrational posters that obsess over comparing their club guys to other teams and let their fanboyism and hatred for other clubs cloud their judgement.

Chin was MOM in Game 2, 2020 and Game 2, 2022. Both at a younger age than JT in either of those matches.

Joey (from memory) didn't really become a match-turning player in Origin until 2000, when he was brought in to replace Kimmorley for Game 2 in Brisbane. He was 26 at that point.

Pearce was a good player who deserved his jersey, but he just lacked the consistency to be among the elite. That's why the Roosters traded him in for Cooper Cronk.

Big test for Cleary coming up in three weeks, but the odds are in his favour.

Even then there were still question marks because he didn't do it at 7 (which I always thought was a stupid slight on him as a player, anyways). It wasn't until 2003 he was finally able to lay those concerns to rest.

The comparison is valid because Pearce copped shit year in and year out for poor origin performances.

Cleary is a far superior player but doesn't perform at origin level and it's crickets.

When comparing Cleary to others at his talent level like JT, Lockyer and Cronk. There really is no comparison because those guys performed at the highest level.

Happy to compare him to others like say Luai and Moses. They both have issues but at least they perform up to their level in origin. Cleary doesn't get close to his level.

That's right, at the time there were naysayers who reckoned if Joey was so good, he'd get picked at #7 instead of being picked out of position at rep level.

myth was busted in origin and got carried FINALLY to a series win

Cleary is arguably the best player to have ever played the game, and he was injured this match. He has been fine in SoO.

the problem with origin, is we get plodders that we can't get rid of

Remind me how he went in both those game 3s when in the former his saviour went off injured and the latter QLD forwards actually turned up?

The key to JTs MOTMs was that they were A) in tight games and he was legit the difference and B) they formed part of WINNING series.

No one looks better than Nathan when the skiing is downhill though.
